Once all your oil has been emptied and your new
filter has been installed you are ready for the final
step of your oil change. Find your oil jug and follow
these steps on refilling your vehicle:
1. Find your oil cap and untighten it
2. Place your funnel in the oil filler hole
3. Begin to pour oil into the funnel until youve

Once you have finished all the steps one last thing you can do is take your old oil you have in
your oil pan and dispose of it in an approved facility.
Trouble Shooting
If you ever run into any problems like leaks the first thing you should do is check your filter and
oil drain plug. Remember to hand tighten your oil filter and torque oil drain plug. If you run into
any more problems some places to look are in your cars service manual or to take your car to a
professional automotive mechanic.

Intro
It has been said engineering began between 4000 and 2000 BC in Ancient Egypt and
Mesopotamia, when there was need for housing and building ways of transportation. Some
recognizable construction that have been built by engineers are the Pantheon by Iktinos in
Ancient Greece, Appian Way by Roman engineers, Great Wall of China by General Meng Tien,
and many more.
Civil engineering is a career that people over look and do not understand. In this paper,
I will explain more to people and students studying for a civil engineering degree about what
the career field is like. I will explain what exactly civil engineers do on a daily basis and what
they contribute to society. The interview opened my eyes to how much civil engineers
contribute to communities such as: Construction, maintenance of the physical and naturally
built environment, which includes working on roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. You
may think a civil engineer works on railroads, subway systems, or airports but, that would be a
sub-disciple of transportation engineering. The interview helped me understand how much I
will be doing once I complete my degree and start going out into the work force. I hope in
sharing this information, it will help others who would like to learn more about civil engineering
and the good that they do for us. First, I want to show a daily schedule that an engineer has.
Then I would like to show discuss in depth about what they do for us and how we benefit from
them.
Results
For me to get a better understanding on what civil engineering was I chose to interview
my brother, Karlo Velez. He has recently graduated from the University of Utah and was
previously an intern and now permanently hired for an engineering company named PSOMAS.
For the first couple of questions, I asked about the company of PSOMAS. PSOMAS was
founded in 1946, when the great depression was over and World War 2 was coming to an end.
At the time there was a need for public work improvements and a demand for housing. That
year, George Psomas started a small surveying firm in Southern California in the 50s and 60s,
Psmoas started to provide engineering services. Later, George Psomas son, Tim Psomas,
graduated with his Civil Engineering degree from Loyola Marymount University and took the
company by the reins. The growth of the company grew so large that more firms were built in
Orange County, Riverside, and Sacramento, California, in 1976. Later down the road, PSOMAS
expanded into Arizona then Utah and to this day, it continues to grow. The companys plans
then grew more into other disciples of engineering such as, traffic engineering, transportation
engineering, water engineering, along with others. Their goal for 2015, is to become the
number one Engineering firm in the United States.
Discussion
During my interview, with my brother Karlo I learned a lot about PSOMAS and what
their morals and values are in the company with their mission statement being, Balance the
Nature and Built Environments. Which means what they are trying to do, is using as much of
their talent to better our environment and human kind. A point my brother would emphasis
throughout the interview was, how important it is to bring quality work to their clients.
PSOMAS believes the most important thing is client satisfactory which is the best measure of
success.
A day-to-day schedule for engineer includes writing many reports throughout the day. A
typical report would include a scope of your work, and a how much progress has been
completed within your project that you are assigned to. Typically, when projects are awarded
and engineer must present to their client a scope of your work, which details the given task
that the company must perform to execute the project as precisely as they can to keep client
satisfied. Memos are used very often in the work place, they are sometimes sent out which are
generally short and straight to the point. A memo can range from a quick update on a projects
estimated time of completion to their project manager, or an update on whatever is going on
within the office. Reports typically would include the general purpose of the report or a quick
overview of what the report is, followed by procedures and studies, and majority of the report
will be figures and tables from study. An engineer at PSOMAS has control over his own work, he
needs to make sure he is giving their clients high quality work. It is essential that all engineers
work together as a team. Their biggest motto is, Two heads are better than one.
Conclusion
As a result, from my interview I have gained valuable information on PSOMASs
goals as a company and grew a better understanding on what a civil engineer is. From these
goals, PSOMAS wants their clients to be satisfied and to keep them coming for future work, and
to have their employees give as much quality work as they can. I also gained knowledge on
what a civil engineer does. They build, design, and maintain roads, buildings, dams, and any
other related structures. For an engineer, technical writing is a crucial skill that you would want
to master. Writing reports and memos are two vital forms of writing that are used on a daily
basis. Establishing reports to your superiors are important. It shows your scope of your daily
work and how much progress is being done to the project that you are working on. Memos in
the office are also important to update your project manager on estimated time a project will
be completed. Balance the Nature, and Built Environments is a great mission statement for
PSOMAS, because what they are trying to do is to bring innovative and quality work to every
client.
