Thesis Question: Can breast cancer change more than the lives of the victims?
Working Thesis Statement: When a person gets breast cancer, it affects more than just the
victim.
Refined Thesis: Breast cancer can affect more people than just the victim by emotionally,
physically, and mentally.

Many people walk around doing normal everyday activities, no expecting anything out of
the ordinary to happen to them. Alisha Gibson thought the same thing. In fact, she was told from
her doctor that nothing was wrong. Gibson complained about pain in her shoulders and neck, but
the doctor just prescribed antibiotics twice without another thought of it. It was not until October
2010 that Gibson at 46, found out that she had reached stage 4 breast cancer. It came as an exotic
shock to her and her husband Norman Gibson that an active and healthy woman became
drenched in this tragedy. Considering how high of a stage this was, the doctor told Gibson to just
go to hospice care; there was no hope at all so why even try? That was until she found Dr.

Khaled Jabboury with the help of a nurse. After eight months of chemotherapy, losing weight,
and collapsed lungs, Gibsons life line went flat. It was as if God Himself put His hands on her
heart, back to life she came. The couple has created a website to help bring more awareness and
hope for those with breast cancer. This article supports my thesis that breast cancer affects more
than just the victims which can lead to websites being created and funds being raised.

An architect with three children and a husband has more on their plate than the usual
mother. What architects are mainly known for is how unique and magnificent their buildings are
that they designed themselves. In this case, Leticia Cole did the same thing but with the
discovery of her inflammatory breast cancer. It was not a mammogram or scan that discovered
the discomfort for Cole, it was an ultrasound. This means that there is 1 to 5 percent of the total
cases of breast cancer in the United States but has a lower survival rate than breast cancer. Cole
underwent six months of chemotherapy, a mastectomy and radiation that took a toll nothing else
ever has before. After the treatments, the doctors could not announce her cancer free considering
there was a 30 to 40 percent chance of it coming back. With what seems like a burden, Cole
continues to stay active and spread the word about the rare form of cancer for other women. This
article supports my thesis that breast cancer affects more than just the victim by spreading word
about rare cancers that can be found easily.

As if the different diagnosed breast cancers that are already here, doctors have seem to
find a new type of breast cancer. Sentinel lymph node' is the name given to the first lymph
node(s) cancer cells move to when spreading through the lymphatic system. The sentinel lymph
node biopsy procedure is used to determine where the patient's sentinel node is to find out if the
breast cancer has spread from the original infected area. The unique way to where the doctors
can detect this cancer is they inject specialized dye into the breast near the tumor. When the
nodes indicate the dye, doctors cut open the arm to take out the nodes and test them for the
cancer. With this new testing and discovery of the new cancer, more women can be saved and
survive. This article supports the thesis that breast cancer affects more than just the victim
because it can lead to new tests and findings.
