ENG 112 37
Multi-Modal Memo
Professor Intawiwat

The multi-modal project I created is a tagxedo, which is a specific

shape of choice through as few or as many words as desired. I used the
following words in my project: selfless, needy, poor, giving, helpful, and
joy. The shape that I decided to use is a heart. The reason for why I
chose the words that I did is because in all of those words, there is an
emotional appeal. The words giving and helpful reflect the essay as
being a call to action and what I want to readers or viewers to do in
order to solve this problem.
I chose to use this mode because it connected the viewers to feel
for the people in need and recognize that there are people living in
poverty. The colors were chosen with relating to pathos, since blue is a
color of peace and comfort. Many people are in need of someone to
show them love and comfort, which correlates with the color choice.
Along with why I chose to use those specific words and the shape, this
project also proves the methods we have learned in the course, the
different appeals.

These word, shape, and color choices play a huge role in what
the readers will achieve after viewing the essay. This utilizes both logos
and pathos. It portrays an emotional appeal because it has words, such
as needy and poor. When I chose words for this essay, all I could think
of was my experiences helping others. The homes in third-world
countries with no toilets, no beds, and no electricity came to my mind.
This is why it creates such an emotional appeal, as it persuades one to
seek out people in need and to live selflessly. It utilizes logos because
in my essay, there is much supporting materials to back up my
argument. There is a hint of logic in that by helping others, one will find
joy in life.
The purpose of this mode is to get the readers to help others,
whether that be in their own community, in another state, or even in
another country. It does not matter where or who we help, but rather
that we help. It is important for the reader to see the colors and words
as a way of sharing love and kindness to everyone.
