    pathbecausehegrewupwithaseverestutterconditionandplanstohelpthosewhosufferfrom
    thesameandsimilarconditionsashedid.Evantalkedimmenselyaboutthesocialchallenges
    thatpeoplefacewhenhavingastutter.HeusedtheIcebergeffecttoexplainthefear,guilt,anger,
    anddenialthesepatientsgothrougheachday.Itishisgoaltoassistthosewiththisconditionin
    feelingnormalandhelpcopewithandimprovetheirstutter.
    Evandiscussedmostlydevelopmentalstutteringwhichisamultifactorial,
    neurodevelopmentaldisorderinvolvingnumerousdomains,suchaslanguage,speechmotor,and
    emotionalfactors.About510%ofchildrenwilldevelopthiscondition,but80%ofthemwill
    overcomeitbytheiradulthood.Thechildisespeciallyatriskifthereisafamilyhistory,ifthey
    are3.5yearsofageandolder,and/oriftheproblemispresentforayearorlonger.Stutteringas
    amultifactorialnaturethatiscausedbyseveraldifferentdomainssuchasemotion,language,and
    motorinteractions.
    Evandoesalotofresearchinthesubjectofstutteringdealingwithdevelopmental
    recoveryversusitspersistence.Thereisalackofevidenceintheeffectivenessofstuttering
    therapiesregardingrecoverythismakesinterventionandresearchdifficult.Developmental
    problemsdealingwithSpeechandLanguagemotorprocessescanrelatetotheroleofstuttering.
    Stutteringpersistenceisdistinguishedfromrecoverybyslowermaturationinbothlanguageand
    speechmotorprocesses.However,theheterogeneityofthedisordersuggeststheselagsarelikely
    notrequired.
    Clinicianscanuseresearchtohelpthemdevelopthebestinterventionsfortheirpatients
    inhopesofhelpingthosewhostuttercopeanddecreasetheircomplication.
