SANDEKADANG SANDAYAW: A Reaction

From the present day of our nation forward, our cultural activities seem to be slowly
tarnished and habitually influenced by different international customs. This occurrence may lead
to severing of our ancestral connections and may induce inexpedient effect in the lives of every
Filipino. Putting our cultural traditions into oblivion seems abrupt in this times and even
dastardly casual. However, from the moment that we have witnessed the Sandekadang
Sandayaw, we have been toured to reminisce the dances that made the past. This wonderful
stage play of folk and contemporary dances of the old have inspired us to remember and give an
outstanding repute to the magnificently enthralling culture we have.
The first part of the performance mainly portrays the ethnic or tribal dances of different
indigenous groups which originated and started since our ancestors. This has been a great
highlight to epitomize the early culture our country has long since before foreign invaders. The
following dances were combination of different folk dances including those that may have
originated from the influence of foreign land to our country. The stage play though centralize
mainly in original Filipino folk dances especially our national folk dance, the tinikling.
The dances were great as being played by true indigenous peoples. It has been danced
gracefully and dynamically. The group dancers showed an outstanding resilience and vibrancy
towards executing every cross, hop, jump, leap, lift, balance, and other steps. It has been truly a
great performance to speak about. Though there was some minor unexpected slip in the order of
choreography, the dancer was still able to cope with himself from the situation and returned to
dancing as if none has happened. With more time to practice, the performance will continually
improve also. The performance of the Sandekadang Sandayaw is a great pride of an Isko ng
Bayan.
