Introduction to business
The name of my business is Jacobs cleaning services.
My business is mobile cleaning services were we come to your house or business daily or weekly to
clean. My team and I will come into your property and clean your house to a high quality standard
you can also leave or give a list of jobs you want doing. The reason why I have chosen this business is
that I have a real passion for cleaning another reason why I have chosen this business is because I
have a real interest in cleaning also I want to help and give advice if they need it. There is a gap in
the market because cleaners are coming back into fashion. The area I am setting up my business is
an area which all my competitors are nowhere near me I have chosen this area because I know the
area. I will be able to sell a range of different services such as general clean, medium clean and
intense clean I will also offer the extra services which will be washing and ironing.
My company will be providing services not products. I will buy in any cleaning products that I use.
Sole Trader
This is the most popular type of business ownership. The business is owned by one person. They may
have some employees but many do not. The owner is personally responsible for every aspect of the
business; this includes management of staff, premises and accounts.
Benefits
One owner keeps all of the profits.
Dont need to publish accounts and records to shareholders only needs to give some information
to the tax office.
You can trade under your own name without needing any permission.
It is quicker and cheaper to set up.
Issues
Holidays if you take holidays your business cant operate so you wont make any money.
Illness if you are ill your business wont get any money if you work for someone else you will still
get paid.
You are responsible for everything need business skills, have to know how to deal with people
need to ensure you dont get taken advantage of.
Accounts- need to have skills to manage accounts or pay someone to do so.
Unlimited Liability - Legally you and your business are the same- if the business is being sued, you
are being sued. If your business gets into debt you carry the debt.
you still have to pay even if your business is not doing well and not making enough to cover the bills
, you will need to pay all of your bills if you cannot pay them then you may be taken to court etc.
3
This issue may stop people from starting up businesses because if the business fails they will take
goods from their businesses and then their homes. To avoid this they will transfer the house into
their partners name so they cannot take any belongings.
For fund when you are a solo trader you have total control of all the money that goes in and out the
business. A sole trader you keep all of the profits that are made but also you only have access to
your own money to develop the business. Also as a solo trader any profit that the business makes all
goes to you.
For the control of a solo trader the solo trader will have total control of the business. A sole trader
will make all of the decisions that go on in the business. The speed of the decision making will be
quick because there is only one person the need to consulting.
Partnership
This is owned by 2-20 people. All share responsibility for running the business. The deed of
partnership outlines everything that happens in the business once it is signed it is a legally binding
document. This also may state who is in charge. It will outline what happens if a partner leaves.
Benefits
Partners may have different strengths you can call upon these skills, this may save money and
time.
Dont need to make all of the decisions this is less stressful than being a sole trader.
If you wish to take a holiday or are ill the partners in the business can manage the business whilst
you are away and the business is still making money.
Issues
Partners may be friends- this may cause problems.
Profits must be shared how will profits be shared if one partner is doing all of the work and one
partner has just invested money.
The decision making process is slower because need to run ideas past all partners, what if some of
them do not agree (The more partners the long this process will take)
Unlimited Liability still occurs but this is not as big of an issue as for a sole trader because the liability
is shared between all of the partners.
The funding with a partnership is different because the money that the business is making will be
split evenly between the partners. The profit that the business makes when its owned by partners
will be split between them. Also there will more money to invest into the business because there is
more than one owner. The control of the business is share both ways and the decision making takes
long because there are more people to consult.
If your company is not doing well people will sell their shares and this will reduce the money in the
business and this may lead to others selling their shares.
Lose all control through selling shares you have to invite all shareholders to AGM to discuss the
business ideas.
The access to funds would be large because potentially there could be lots of shareholders and the
business could make millions. I would have to pay dividends based on the amount of profit to
shareholders.
The main owner will have control but will have to consult all of the shareholders on their decisions
they are making. This process will take a long time because of how many shareholders the business
may have.
The ownership I have chosen is a solo trader. The reason why I have chosen to be a sole trader is
because I have looked at all the other ownership types and summed up all the benefits and issues
and come to the conclusion that a sole trader would be the best type of ownership for me and my
business. Mainly because it is a small business and I will be able to make all of the decisions and all
of the profit will be mine to keep.
It is important to set aims and objectives because this gives you something to aim for in the future
and it makes sure you have something to work towards.
Market research
There are two types of research which are primary and secondary research. Primary research is
where you gather new information this can be carried out by doing research using questionnaires,
survey. This is done by you to get all the information and results needed. Secondary research is
where the information and the results are already gathered and collected for you by another
company or person and you get information through them.
The benefits of primary research is that you can ask specific questions relating to your business, you
can design your questions around what you need to know about your customers or your business,
This will help me to make decisions in the business and it will also help me to meet customers
needs. A drawback of primary research is that it can be expensive and time consuming. The benefit
of secondary research is that is it quick and easy to carry out because someone else has done the
work. A drawback of secondary research is that the research is just general questions and it is not
specific to your business.
Secondary research
This company is a door to door cleaning service and the specialist in domestic cleaning the company
is called daily Poppins. The services they offer are carpet cleaning, window cleaning, commercial
cleaning and stream cleaning. The charges are fixed rates depend on the different jobs. This
companies also you online booking this mean that the customers are at an easy way of contacting
the daily Poppins. This would be a bad impact on my business because Im in a shopping centre and
even those it easy to customers but the other hand the daily Poppins are going door to door and
offering their services.
As part of my market research I did research on a website called Mintel I look at all the different
report on cleaning, the information I found out was about surface cleaning. This report told me
about all the different disinfectant to use on the different surfaces e.g. drain cleaner, tile cleaner and
lime / rust remover and there disposable wipes.
Another thing I found out was in recent years the cost and buying of cleaning products as risen by 4
% between the years 2009 2014 to 4.7 billion and is still rising this telling me that there is a high
demand for cleaning products
Another report told me about hard surface cleaning, its tells me about the problems with people and
hard surfaces such as poor times for people that need a quick and easy cleaning, results in what
people are looking for in their cleaning and the health and hygiene about cleaning products. Another
thing this report said was the government are focusing on the prices of goods.
The secondary research allows me to know that my business will be a successful because it tells me
know what I need to run my business. The secondary research also gives me information about the
different licences to run my business and the different checks my staff and I would to work for my
cleaning company e.g. CRB checks and car insurances.
Primary research
For my market research I decide on doing a questionnaire to ask my customers what they
would like from a cleaning company. The people I issue them to young adults and 65+ who
are home owners.
Question 1
I asked how often you clean your house.
The responses I got were 8 said once a day, 9 said
once a week and 13 said 2-3 times a week and the
results I got back was the more clean their homes
2-3 times a week.
This would mean it is good for my business because
more people are cleaning their houses 2-3 times a week this I would have to clean their
houses more and I would make more money. This would make my business successful
because I would
be busy and
people like busy
businesses
because this
makes me get a
better
reputation and if
I am busy people will know that I am doing a good job and I am a good business.
Question 2
I asked people how much would you spend on cleaning products per week
The question I ask was 0-5 6-10 11-15 16+ and the response I got was that I got
was 6 said 0-5 11 said 6-10 7 said 11-15 and 6 said 16+ so the result I got of this is
that more pay 6- 10 pounds on their cleaning products. This mean I would to buy my
cleaning products from the suppliers at around about 6-10 pounds.
This is good for my business because I dont need to pay as much for cleaning products this
means I can my stock prices will be low. This will
make my business successful because I can keep
my running cost low but still keep the high
quality of cleaning this have a good impression
on my business and keep customers coming in.
Question 3
For question 3 I asked how are you willing to pay a cleaner and the option I put down was
10, 15 20 or 25 and the that came back are 6 people said 10 another 6 said 15 7
people said 20 and 11 people said 25. With these results I show more people would pay
cleaners I higher amount such as 25 to clean their houses.
This is good for me because I am pay low prices for stock this means my business would be
making a profit and customers a willing to pay a high price for my clean services. This would
because my customers are happy will the high quality of clean I would be giving. This would
also to the successful of my business because I am a high for my business and makes me get
a good reputation.
Question 4
For question 4 I asked people how much time
do they spend cleaning they houses. For this I
split it up into 3 different categories which
was hour, 2 hours or 3 or more hours. The
results came back with 7 people saying an
hour 10 people said 2hours and 13 said 3 or
more hours. The results show that more people clean their houses 3 or more houses in the
day.
This good for my business because I now know how time I would need to spend cleaning
customers houses. This would also me plan and organised jobs in the day. This would make
my business successful because it will be
well organised help keep control of jobs and
when they need to be done by.
Question 5
For question 5 I asked would you mind a
cleaner in house when youre not in the split
this answer into a yes or no answer and to
explain why. The results that came back was
11 people said yes they would someone
being in the house and 19 said no they would mined someone in the house. With these
result I make plans to solve and to actions to my customers needs
This can be good and bad for my business
because it will depend on what the customers
wants to do this also good for me because I am
meeting my customers needs and this will lead
to the success of my business.
9
Question 6
For this question I asked how often you would want your house cleaned. For this I decide to
given some options such as once a day, once a week and 2 to 3 a week the result was that
10 people said that they clean their house once a day 13 said once a week and the
remaining 7 said 2 to 3 times a week this graph show that more people clean once week.
This is bad for my business because if more of my customers wants a cleaner once a week
this mean I need to solve by making an equal parts of three options and having of different
option speed out thought the week this will lead to the success of my business.
Question 7
For this question I ask what cleaning a you
interested in General clean, medium clean and
intense clean. Then results came back with 7 said
general clean another 12 people said medium
clean and the rest said 11.This is good for my
business because more people chosen the
medium clean this want to pay more to clean their
home. My business will be a success because more a willing to pay more for a cleaner their
home this means my business a grow and make more in the future.
Question 8
This question I asked would people for extra such as
ironing and washing the result I got back was 21
people said that they would like extra jobs doing and
pay for them and 9 people said no.
The is good for my business because more people
said yes to paying for extra this mean my business will
be making more money and this will lead to the
success of my business in the future.
10
Question 9
For this question I asked what time would
people want their how cleaned morning,
afternoon or evening the result that that 16
said morning 10 said afternoon and only 4 said
evening. this is good for my business because
this means I can have a mix a morning and
afternoon this means all my days in the week
could be full with jobs My business would be
success because my days are full with jobs and my profit will increase.
Question 10
For this question I asked people would they like
special occasion cleans I gave 4 options such as
After Parties, After Wedding, Before Christmas
and Before Birthdays. The result show that 4
people both said after wedding and before
birthdays. 8 said after parties and 16 said before
Christmas this is good for my business because
its means near the busy time of the year I would be making the mostly money. This would
lead to the success of my business.
Channel
The way my customers will buy my service is by having a website online but the website will be
advertising my services and I will also sell my service on the site. The reason why I have picked this
method is because I am mobile cleaning company. I thought this would be the best way of
advertising my business. Another reason why I picked it is because I have a range of different
services. I thought that it would be easy for my customers to contact me and to look at all the
different things I offer.

My start-up cost will be 1,880 for setting up my business because I would need the following which
will be shelves for my stock room in my house, cleaning equipment such as hoovers and products for
steamers for jobs. I would need also to have staff that drive this mean I would need vans and cars
for my staff and me to work and go to jobs. Another thing I need for starting up my business will be
my staff and I would need mobiles to contact each other and any customers that need to speak to
us.
My running costs will be 1031.00 per month; this will be paying all of my staff, buying materials
and paying business rates and insurance.
For my business I predict I will make 1550.00per month if I hit the amount of packages I predict I
will sell. My sales revenue is more than my running costs so this is good.
Sources of finance
The place would get the money to start up my business will be from family and friends. I will also if I
need it get a loan from the bank the reason I have chosen this way of getting the money for my
start-up cost will be because an easy way of getting the money and my family and friends who can
trust me to pay back the money but if my family and friends cant help me I have a second option of
12
getting a loan from the bank because Im small business I can a start-up business loan the I can pay
because will low interest rates.

Legal aspects
The legal aspects I will need to consider before I start my business up is insurance for my vehicles
and for when my staff and I are working in customers homes. Another legal aspect I will also need is
to have CRB checks on all my staff. I will also need to consider health and hygiene legal aspect to
ensure no one gets hurts while or after Im cleaning. I will follow the employment law which
meaning making sure that Im giving my employees the minimum wages , giving them the correct
amount of breaks and that i meet and understand all my employees needs.
Action plan
I will open my business in June 2015 because it is a reliable date to open my business this will mean I
have the time to gather all the resources I need to help me open and run my business. I will need to
get the money and loans from banks or family and friends to start my business by the end of
February 2015, will also sort out the insurance for my business and the vehicles. I will start my
marketing and advertising my business 10 days before I open my business in June 2015 I will also
create my website will also help to market and advertise. I will need to make sure I have my supplier
in May in time for me to train all of my staff on the correct equipment to use. I will need to
advertise for staff in April to hire them in May so I have time to provide them with the training they
need before we open as a business in June.
Summary
The reason why I know my business will be a success is because I have done all of the research to
start up my business I have done questionnaire will I have gather up all of the information from my
target audience which would help me meet all my customers needs. Another way I know my
business will succeed is by know I have family and friends to help me when need it. All of the
research I have done has been positive for my business in that I have no competitors close to me and
that I have asked questions about pricing and packages on my survey which has helped me to set my
prices for the business. I think my business will be a success because I am filling the gap in the
market of special occasion cleaning which no other cleaning company does. I also think it will be
successful because I am priding the company on its good customer service, so customers will want to
use us again and again.
