Dance IV-6
Artistic Critique
Natalie and Flors Piece
This piece had a really good story line. I saw the story through the piece. The
costumes were nice, and went well with the idea of the concept. The music
transitions worked with the different emotions of the piece. It was very entertaining
to watch.
I really liked the way each character had different costumes in the piece to
portray the different characters. I also really enjoyed the music changes and I felt
like they fit the emotions of the piece. I also enjoyed the part where a whole bunch
of dancers came running in the beginning. The movement went well with the music.
The technique in this piece was okay. I think it did go well with the music. I
also think that it was a lot different than most of the pieces. The technique used in
this piece was more ballet technique I believe. I really enjoyed the ending duet. I
think that duet was pieced together well.
Some questions I have for the choreographers are: Why did you choose to do
this myth? Why did this myth call your attention? Why was Kiara wearing blue?
What did all of the dancers in the beginning represent?
Some suggestions I would have for the choreographer is to maybe make the
part with Kiara and Kayla a little longer. I think Kayla and Kiara should have
interacted with each other more to show that they were mother and daughter. Also I

think that Kiara should have had a longer solo part to introduce herself and her role
in the myth.
The choreographers intention was to portray the myth of their choice. The
myth was a about a young girl having to leave her mother and marry the god of the
underworld. So she was basically taken away from her mother. The balls that were
thrown represented the 6 pomegranates that she ate which represented the 6 years
she stayed with her mother and the 6 years she stayed with the god of the
underworld.
Overall I really enjoyed the piece. It was one of my favorite pieces to be in
this concert. I really liked the movement in the piece I think it was very different. I
also thought the soloist portrayed her character well along with Kayla and Dayana. I
saw the story throughout the piece. I think this piece was well constructed.
