For more than sixdecades, DRDO has been the core of the Research and
Development for Defence Systems. DRDO decicatedly working
towards enhancing self-reliance in Defence Systems, encouraging
Public Private Partnership through participation in Cutting Eége
Defence projects. ORDO of today has made a paracigm shift, however s
not without challenges, long lead time of missin critical components,
Unwilingness of Technology Partners to share Knowledge, Frequent
Changes in the User requirements an disparate systems or processes
Scrose participating lab impose hurdles in achieving the project
milestones and objectives
Recognising the above impending challenges, the Madel Based System
Engineering (MBSE) approach uses a well-defined madel to address the
fellowing issues
+ Definition of requirements,
Traceability ofthe design changes,
Systemlevel design and optimization
+ Automation ofthedesion process,
+ Functional and Digital mock-up of the design system/Systems of
The Workshop wil introduce professionals from Academia, RO labs
and Industry tothe Model based System Engineering Fundamentals
with focus on Armament and Combat Vehicle. However, the approach
fan be used in DRDO led projects from various Clusters from
Rerospace/Marine Engineering, Missiles to Robotics. The Workshop
will enable Scientist to apply a proven methodology adopted by Global
Defence Research agencies such as DARPA, USDOD, French Defence
Research Agency and many leading Indian and global defence sectors.
Recently, Goveroment of India has intoduced a policy of “Make in
India’. In order to realize this concept, the Mechanical Engineering
Department of Defence Institute of dvanced Technology (BIRT) has
{alien an initiative for development of technalogy ready resources for
DRDO. The Workshop wil introduce the participants on Fundamentals
of Model Based System Engineering. The workshop will provide
insight into the area of MBSE based designs and impact of changing
requirement on system design, which was normally excluded from the
technology discussion and today. are integral part of any system
fngineering practice. The workshop will enable the participant
towards preparedness to address the ask for knowhow of Mode! based
System Engineering tobe deployed across projects in DROO labs,

‘The Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the nine departments of
Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (Deemed University), Pune,
‘Teaching the Post Graduate students, training the t-service personals
along withthe DRDO Scientists ang carrying out outstanding "esearch with
fan importance to defence are the key focus of the department. The
‘departments diverse research interests span our base disciplines and reach
into a wide variety of application areas including armaments, combat
Vehicles, marine engineering, space, control, and many others. The
‘department currently runs three post graduate programmes viz
Firmamants, Combat Vehicles and Marine Engineering, Strength of
‘department lies in ie Ph.D. Programme with more than 21 research
Scholars pursuing the PhO programme
The department has excellent faculty and involved in many focused areas of
research such 95 Sei healing composite structures, Impact dynamics of
omposite structures, Repaifing technology and Life assessment of
omposite stuctures, FER & Fracture mechanics, Mechanical behavior
through nano scratching/Nano indentation, Dynamic indentation High
Srainrate low behavior of materials for Defense applications, Tribology,
High speed machining/green machining of serospace materials, CFO, Twe
Phase Flow, Vehicle dynamics and Condition monttaring The departments
very well equipped with computational facilities and cesourees both in
termsothardwareand software
Experts from Academia, R & D Establishments and Industry,
