5e Kingdom Lesson
5e Kingdom Lesson
Kingdoms. Organisms within these taxonomic groups share similar characteristics which allow them to
interact with the living and nonliving parts of their ecosystem. The student is expected to:
(D) identify the basic characteristics of organisms, including prokaryotic or eukaryotic, unicellular or
multicellular, autotrophic or heterotrophic, and mode of reproduction, that further classify them in the
currently recognized Kingdoms
ASSESSMENT: How will you know concretely that all
of your students have mastered the objective?
ENGAGE: 10 min
The students will be split up into groups and each group will be given a folder with 16
pictures of various plants/animals/bacteria/fungi each having a different number on it.
They will then be told that there are three big groups (A,B,C) and subgroups within Group
A. Their job will be to arrange the 16 pictures into what they believe their proper domain
and kingdom are based on their characteristics and the following clues:
#1 is in the same big Group as #5
Group B has two organisms in it
One of the big groups only has one organism
#9 is in Group C
Group A is the biggest group
Then I will use Socrative to have a Space Race where the students will type in the order
that they believe was correct and see who was closest to the truth.
