The Last Words

Its time to get up for school Jessie, said his father. Whatever Dad, said Jessie. Jessie
finished getting ready for school and then went to eat. Are you ready to go to your moms, said
his father. Dad, why did you have to divorce Mom, he said in an irritated tone. His fathers
facial expression turned from a grin to what looked like the pouty face of a sad puppy. Reaching
over to gently touch Jessie his father said Son, its for the best, as the words slowly trailed off,
like a distant sound. It isnt fair, its not whats best, said Jessie. So, for about half the car ride
to school there was just complete silence. But, what happened within the next five hours would
be life altering.
Glaring at his father, Jessie said, I never see you, and when I do youre always working.
You ruined my life by moving out. Jessies father slightly angry then said, Its not just about
you, Jess. We were unhappy. Jessie then just slouched in the chair and then yelled, I wish I
didnt have you as a Dad, Ill never forgive you. Those were the last horrid words he said to his
father. In his second period they called Jessie out of class. As he walked out the door he saw the
facial expressions of the people, he knew something absolutely terrible had happened. Honey,
your father has been in a tragic car accident... Jessies moms words became difficult to hear
because her tears were taking over. Her tears were rolling down her cheek like water going down
a waterfall. He isnt going to make it, Im so sorry, said the counselor. Jessies thoughts were

unbearable. What have I done? Ill never hear his voice again. Ive lost my father forever, and I
cant do anything about it. He just stood there in utter shock. Once he started crying he couldnt
stop. He went to sleep crying that night, with his mind and heart full of regrets and sorrows.
A week after the sudden death of his father and the heart-wrenching funeral, he decided
to return to school. He knew the day was going to be hard, but then there was something that
brought light into his heart. He was in his English class, at his desk alone then, someone sat in
the desk beside him. Jessie then looked up and then saw a glowing face smile at him. In his mind
all he could think was WOW. She then said, Hey Jess, are you okay? This was a relief, for
someone to care about him, and how he was feeling. He answered Im alive, but Im dying
inside. His voiced kept cracking during the whole conversation. This special girl was named
Bailey. Bailey offered him her phone number in case he wanted to talk. That night he and his
mother got into an enormous argument. It ended with bedroom doors slamming and the exchange
of some hurtful words. Jessies body was full of anger, sadness, among many other emotions. He
was lying on his bed when he saw the piece of paper with the girls phone number on it. Little did
Jessie know that this now stranger would soon mean a lot to him.
He soon called this mysterious girl. Hello, this is Bailey talking, she said. After the
two talked the conversation soon became one to remember. It was the kind of conversation that
you basically poor out your heart to one another. Soon the two felt like they had known each
other for a lifetime. That morning he thought to himself how is it that one conversation can
change the way you look at someone completely. In the coming days Bailey and Jessie didnt
really talk much, outside of English, and their phone calls continued. Eventually, Bailey began
to vent about her life. Jessie always thought that she had the best life, and that she wasnt going
through anything. But, after they became close he came to recognize that it wasnt so great. The

two started talking more and more. It was inevitable that he started to develop feelings for
Bailey. Although he tried to hide it, it was quite obvious. One day when the two were walking
together in the hallway, a guy came up to Jessie. He said What do you think youre doing?
Um, um, um, Im just walking with Bailey, said Jessie. Go away Jake, hes just my friend,
thats it, said Bailey. You better stay away from her, do you understand me? said Jake.
Okay, okay Im sorry, said Jessie. Jake then sternly grabbed her hand and yanked her away.
Baileys entire body seemed to just collapse within itself, and you could see the pain in her pale,
hazel eyes.
That night just as Bailey called Jessie he could tell by the raspiness in her voice that she
had been crying. Jess, I dont think I can talk to shes had to stop and clear her throat.
you anymore. Im sorry. No, no, Bailey dont leave me! Please! I need you said Jessie.
Youre my only friend, said Jessie. Its for your own good, goodbye. Over the next couple
of weeks Jessies life went from bad to horrendous. Every night he would hear a voice telling
him not to give up, but he would continue to ignore it. God, why are you doing this to me? You
took everything away from me. Im alone. Youre not alone, said the voice. Yes I am, said
Jessie as he blocked out the voice. That night he harmed himself because, even though it was
just for a split second, the pain seemed to drift away. When he was at school, he would walk
through the hallway, and it was as if he was just air blowing through. To him his life wasnt
worth living anymore. He decided that tonight was the night he was going to die. It would be
better if I didnt exist. As he put the pills in his hand, and tears rushing down his face he heard
the voice again. But this time it seemed to actually be there. He turned and saw his father but he
appeared as an angel with beautiful wings. Son, you are amazing, Im begging you, please

dont do this. I am worthless, please just let me die, said Jessie. Live your life for me, make
me proud, said his father. Those words saved his life.
Over time, Jessie and his guardian angel, which was his father, had these talks at night.
Jessie soon began to realize that he was worth something and God had a master plan. Jessie
turned his life around and he knew what he needed to do. It was tough, but he eventually got
Bailey to leave Jake. Also with the polices help, she got a restraining order against him. Your
my angel, Jessie, said Bailey. No, Im just being a friend, said Jessie. God always has a plan.
That year, Jessie learned a lot of things. Everyone has a guardian angel; its just that some are
here on earth while others are in heaven. Jessie finally realized his purpose and in the process he
saved Baileys life.
