Holocaust Experience
Prior to taking this University Writing class, I would say that I have little
Holocaust experience.
I have watched the movie The Boy in Striped Pajamas that tells the story of a
little boy and the friend he makes who is a Jew during the holocaust. Through this
movie, I gained a little insight on how
Jews were treated during that time, as
well as how people viewed Jews.
Another movie that I have
watched is Schindlers List. This
movie is about a business man during
the holocaust that helps protect Jews by employing them.
I also recall studying the holocaust a little in seventh grade. I dont remember
too much about it. Just fundamental things like who the Nazi Party was and who
Adolf Hitler was. I have read various factoids online and the Holocaust has always
seemed like a topic of interest, although I have never really pursued it.
It is my hope that through this writing class, I can gain more knowledge on
Hitler himself. I would love to know more about him and how he rose to such power
as well as what made him view Jews the way he did.

Another thing that I hope becomes a topic of discussion in this class is Anne
Frank. I have seen documentaries and movies about her, that of which I dont
remember much about, however she has always been an interesting person to me. A
lot of people have recommended her diary to me as a good read, but I never could get
myself to read it. I would love to know more about how she went into hiding and the
people that helped her along the way.
Thats just about all the prior knowledge I have of the Holocaust. I am excited
to further my education in this class and gain more insight in the subject.
