AUSSIE BATTLER

Breaker Morant Letter

March 8 1902

Dear Lord Salisbury,

I am writing this letter to inform you of Breaker Morants Story.
I am the nephew of breaker Morant and this is his story. Breaker Morant was born
in 1964 and died on the 27th of February 1902. He was an amazing man who
was kind, generous and happy. When he went to the war he swore that he would
protect us from whoever wanted us dead and he was a true hero. But your men
falsely accused my uncle and executed him. When my family found out how
Morant had died we were shocked and outraged that such a thing could happen
because of your stupidity and recklessness.
It is injustice that Breaker Morant has been executed and his name and legend
has been tainted from the great innocent man he was. The memory of Breaker
Morant should be a strong independent man who fought for his country and did
all he could for the people he loved. But the people in court have mangled and
distorted the truth of what actually happened in the Boer War and the fact that
Morant was just following orders. It is preposterous that Morant has been
portrayed as an evil human intent on killing people for fun and that Breaker
Morant was not fighting for his country and is a sick human being because all
Morant has ever done was fight for his country and family. He was ordered to
keep no prisoners alive and execute the farmers. He wasnt trying to do anything
wrong and he just was obeying the people higher up in ranking.
Not to mention he was denied of an investigation to the allegations and denied
time to prepare for his trail. These are all rights that men have and they have
been expelled by the government to keep the Boer farmers happy. In Conclusion
Breaker Morant is a great Australian fighter who wanted to protect the people he
loved and was unfairly accused and executed because of the governments
mistakes.
Yours Sincerely,
Darcy Morant
