Re: Letter of Reference — Dana Rigucera
To Whom It May Concern:
Itis an honor and a privilege to provide a letter of reference for Dana. In conjunction with her
commitment to academics, family, and other activities, she made a commitment to make a
difference in her community through volunteering. Dana has been an active youth volunteer
with the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre since May 2014. To date she has contributed 80
hours of service for the betterment of our patients and staff.
From May ~ October 2014 Dana volunteered in the position of Acute Care Visitor; specifically
with Unit 21 (orthopedic surgical unit). In this role Dana's focus was to provide comfort and
‘companionship for all Unit 21 patients in an effort to make their stay in our hospital as pleasant
as possible. This included providing fresh ice water, assisting with delivery of meal trays and
providing feeding assistance, providing other comfort items such as extra linens, warm blankets,
etc, as well as accompanying patients off the unit, or simply offering a cup of coffee/tea/hot
chocolate and a listening ear. Since November 2014, Dana has been volunteering with our
Emergency Department. Although varied, her role with ER id to assist clients into treatment
rooms, provide comfort items as needed, and act as a liaison between clients/families and
medical personnel. In addition Dana may also escort clients to and from x-ray (or other areas of
the hospital), fetch equipment, or sit with an anxious client or family member. Despite the
complexity and diversity of this role, Dana quickly proved that she was up for the challenge and
has been a strong asset to the Emergency Department. The current youth volunteer semester
is due to end at the end of April 2015. | am unsure as to whether Dana will continue to
volunteer beyond this semester.
Dana has shown outstanding commitment to her volunteer work; recording only six absences
during her past year of volunteering. In addition, she pays attention to detail, interacts with
others in a very mature and professional way, and uses good judgment to handle problems if,
they arise, Dana is always polite and respectful with patients, staff, and fellow volunteers and
adheres to all policy and procedures expected of her as a volunteer. She is a great asset to our
hospital. | whole-heartedly recommend her for any position (paid or volunteer) or scholarship
she wishes to pursue.
Sincerely,
Qo
