Strategic Communication Plan for Numen Lumen: A Thursday


Inspiration
Goal: There will be support for Thursday Inspiration among Elon students and
faculty, so that students have an understanding of what the tradition is and how
attending can better their Elon experience.
Target Publics:
Elon faculty and staff
Elon students
Students involved in Greek life at Elon

Objectives
1. Student and faculty awareness of Thursday Inspiration will increase by 50%
by the end of the 2015-2016 academic year.
Strategies
1. Contact student media outlets.
a. Formulate a press release and send it to The Pendulum for a
possible feature story.
b. Contact Elon Local News to pitch a story, so that they can cover
the event.
c. Contact WSOE 89.3 FM and have their DJs promote Thursday
Inspiration on a talk radio show.
2. Provide information in multiple formats.
a. Create a flyer and post it around campus (places like Irazu, Acorn,
McEwen, Moseley, Global).
b. Hand out flyers at College Coffee on Tuesday mornings.
c. Create a design to be featured on digital boards in campus
buildings.
d. Write an article for E-Net.
3. Social Media
a. Make a weekly Facebook event and invite Elon students to join it.
b. Create a promotional video to post on YouTube and other social
media platforms (like Facebook and Instagram).
c. Create inspirational content with the hashtag, #InspireElon and
post it on various social media platforms.

2. 40% of students and faculty will have a clear understanding of Thursday


Inspiration by the end of the 2015-2016 academic year.
Strategies
1. Social Media
a. Make an Ask.fm account to create a space where people can ask
anonymous questions about the event.
b. Create a blog with weekly articles written by speakers from Thursday
Inspiration.
c. Share articles on Facebook and Twitter about stress relief and how
Thursday Inspiration can help both students and faculty relax.
2. Contact student media outlets.
a. Talk to the editors of The Edge magazine about including a story on stress
relief and meditation in their next issue. Propose that in the story, the
author could highlight how students and faculty can find weekly rest and
relaxation at Thursday Inspiration.
b. Contact Elon Local News to produce a story on student stress and how it
can be relieved through attending Thursday Inspiration.
c. Contact WSOE 89.3 FM and ask them to talk on the air about rising stress
levels on college campuses and Elons effort to combat this through
Thursday Inspiration.

3. Attendance of students and faculty at Thursday Inspiration will increase by 20%


by the end of the 2015-2016 academic year.
Strategies
1. Provide incentives to students.
a. Ask faculty to provide extra credit to students who attend the
event.
b. Provide free food and coffee at Thursday Inspiration.
c. Utilize a loyalty/punch card to reward students who attend
Thursday Inspiration regularly.
d. Offer Panhellenic Council (PHC) points for attendance as an
incentive to engage the Greek community.
2. Involve opinion leaders in programing.
a. Ask visiting cultural event speakers that often visit Elon for
evening lectures to consider partnering with Thursday Inspiration
and to speak at the event the morning before their lecture.

b. Ask President Leo Lambert speak, attend and tweet about the
event.
c. Ask the Student Government Association (SGA) President Avery
Steadman to promote the event to the student body.
d. Contact the Office of University Communications to post on the
Elon University Twitter account about the event every Thursday
morning.
