Algebra Review:

HOW WILL I ASSESS YOUR KNOWLEDGE

We are at that that time in our unit where I will be assessing your progress. When you receive
your assessment after it has been graded, you will see either a 1(working below), 2(emerging
thinking), 3(meeting) or a 4(exceeding) for each of the 4 content subjects below. Use this list of
criteria to properly gage your review. Remember math students are always expected to:
demonstrate their knowledge of content, show step-by-step detail of their problem solving and
to communicate their thinking to the reader as if they have no math background.
CONCEPT

3 (MEETING)

Variables are defined.

Understanding of Word
Problems / Creating an
Equation

Student indicates relevant information

in the problem.
Ability to write an equation that will be
used to solve the problem.
Ability to include a reasonable range
for the independent variable.
Student includes at least 5 values.
Ability to plug values into the equation
to determine the dependent variables
value.

No errors in calculations.
Student indicates another method
that could be used to find the value
of the dependent variable.

Knowledge that an ordered pair

contains brackets and a comma.
Knowledge that the independent
variable is listed first, followed by the
dependent variable: (x, y).

No errors in calculations.
Student shows their work by using
their table of values, their graph, or
their equation to determine the
correct ordered pair.

Graph has a title.

The independent variable is along the
horizontal axis and the dependent
variable is along the vertical axis. Both
should be labelled.
Knowledge on whether the data is
discrete or continuous.

No error with plotting your points.

Graph extends beyond your table of
values to allow for more information
regarding the data.

Student is able to use their graph to

answer questions about the word
problem.

Student verifies their solution

algebraically.
