Many Mayas
In class we did an activity using Maya Angelous famous poem
Phenomenal Women. First, we read the poem to ourselves and then
listened to Professor Brown read it out loud to us. My first reaction to
the poem was that it was a good poem, but nothing more really. Then
Professor Brown showed us a video of Maya Angelou reading the poem.
After listening to her read the poem, I realized how much more
powerful the poem was compared to when I read it. Next, we watched
a cartoon video while the poem was being read in the background. The
video was a cartoon of Maya Angelou, it started off as her being a
young girl and showed her growing up. The video showed us what she
had to deal with while growing up and how strong she was. While
watching this video and hearing the poem being read in the
background, it completely changed my first opinion of the poem. I
realized how powerful and strong the poem was, and how much I loved
the poem.
