Objectives: I can complete a PARCC practice question to prepare for the test. I can
watch a video to determine how to compare fractions with the same numerator. I can
compare fractions with the same numerator.
Standards: 3.NF.3d

Warm Up:
o

Students will come in and have a seat at the table.

I will tell students that we will be doing a practice question to begin to learn
how PARCC looks and works.

I will have students get their iPads.

I will have them go to safari and type in:

http://parcc.pearson.com/practice-tests/

We will click on Math.

We will click on grade 3.

We will look under PBA Practice Tests

We will click computer based test.

Students will put in their name, click start, start section.

We will look over question 3 and answer it together.

I will have students put down their iPads and return their iPads.

Whole Group:

I will tell students that today we will be watching a video to learn how to
compare fractions with the same numerator.

I will have students go to:

https://learnzillion.com/lessons/1739

This video will teach students about how to compare fractions with the
same numerator.

After we watch the video, we will discuss what students have learned.

I will give students a paper with fish bowls on it.

Each paper has 2 fishbowls.

We will split the fish bowls in half.

We will write a fraction on each half to compare.

The fractions will have the same numerators.

We will use blue and red crayons to show our fractions.

We will work on comparing the fractions together.

After we draw in the fish bowl, students will use their fraction bars to
compare the two fractions.

We will complete up to 4 fishbowls for students to compare.

Students will put away their materials and line up.
