This daily lesson plan is for an 8th grade language arts class. The objective is to introduce students to found poetry. Students will identify examples of found poetry and begin working on their own found poem by selecting text from old books and magazines. The lesson includes discussing found poetry, viewing examples, reviewing a rubric, and giving students time to select text to use for their poem which they will complete the next day. Accommodations are provided for one student to have extra time writing vocabulary.

Daily Lesson Plan: Day 3 (Mini Lesson) Daily Lesson Objective: Students will be introduced to a new poetry form and will be able identify a found poem. Daily Formative Assessment: Pick out an old book or magazine and begin working on Found Poem Materials Needed: Pen/pencil Journal PowerPoint Vocabulary list Old Books or magazines for the students to use for their Found Poem Pens, tape, markers, paper, and other supplies for the students. Rubric Activities: 1. Open PowerPoint and discuss found poetry. Give them time to write down definition. 5 minutes 2. Show them examples of found poetry (slides 15-18) and explain why they are considered found poetry on the first two slides (four examples total). For the last two slides (four examples) have different students explain why the examples are of found poems or not. (All of them are except for the last one. The last one could possibly be one but the students have to show the teacher before they cut the text from the book or magazine in order to make sure it is in the same order). 10 minutes 3. Pass out rubric for Found Poem and go over it with them. 5 minutes. 4. They will then have the rest of the time to go to the pile of old books and magazine and carefully cut out a page or two they want to use to make the found poem. They can also get started if there is time left. They will leave the Found Poem in the classroom and finish it tomorrow. At least 15 minutes Accommodations: Student A Make sure she has enough time to write down vocabulary. Other than this, Student A and B should be fine with this activity.
