I am writing to express my interest in the Graduate Assistantship for Assessment and Student Development
as posted on the University of Maryland Human Resources website. The outreach programs provided by the
Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Education at the University of Maryland are invaluable services provided to
the diverse student body at the university. In my opinion, I would be an asset to the university due to my:
1. Organisational skills. In my capacity as the Event Organiser at a blood donation drive sponsored by
the Lions Club of Chennai, India I was tasked with encouraging people to donate blood by
organising a door to door publicity drive. Over the course of the three day drive close to 1100 people
donated.
2. Interpersonal skills. In the above mentioned drive I was also assigned the responsibility of meeting
with organisations to encourage them to co-sponsor the drive. My team and I were successful in
convincing a total of 4 organisations to donate to the cause.
3. Technical writing skills. In my final year of undergraduate education I performed a research project
that was selected by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology Inc) as my
universities sole annual project entry.
