Marjane Satrapis text deals with a variety of com1plex and often controversial issues. Please
pick one such issue to examine in detail in this essay. Your essay should clearly define the issue
and the conflicting sides. Give the audience enough background information to understand the
issue, but focus your paper on your argument.
Clearly state your position and back up this position with evidence. Be sure to address an
appropriate counter argument. Imagine that your audience is not informed about and is not
interested in this issue; it will be your job to use rhetoric to make your audience care about and
agree with your position.
Possible theses will be discussed in class.

Format: MLA, Times New Roman, 12 pt font

Page Length: 3-4 pages.
Sources: Primary text (Satrapis) and at least one additional source.

First draft due Monday 2/23 (No draft, no credit)

Second draft due online by 5pm Monday 3/2
