Research Response 3
Unfortunately I was not in class the day we did the Holocaust Interest
Inventory but I decided to do my own outside research and find what
interested me the most about the Holocaust. Already with the activities we
have done in class I have found that I am really interested on the perspective
of women and children involved in the Holocaust in Europe during the
1940s. The role of Jewish, Roma (Gypsy), and Polish women and children
are of such great interest to me because as a social work major I also want to
focus my career in being an advocate on policy for women and womens
rights.
I believe it will be very interesting to learn about how basic liberties
and rights were revoked from Jewish women and learn how some were later
sold into prostitution or were deployed into forced labor under conditions
that often lead to death. I grew into wanting to gain knowledge about these
mistreated women first by conducting research.
My research began with some early historical reading on the Holocaust
so that I could refresh my knowledge of what I have previously learned in

history classes about the major epidemic. After finishing the generally history
I still hadnt found anything that drastically caught my attention so I went
back to a class notes that I briefly took last semester, it was a liberal studies
course discussing the Holocaust. I read through some old documents our
teacher had us to do research on and I found an article called Sexual
Violence against Jewish Women during the Holocaust on a website that
focuses on the poetry, fiction, films and art of the Holocaust. This article to
me is a great resource for what I want to focus on during my time in this
class. I really loved this article because even though it is fairly lengthy it was
packed full of important information regarding the mistreatments of women
during this era.
Once I found this article I felt that it was an extremely useful tool to
further help me with my research process throughout the remainder of this
class. After finding this article I assumed that conducting any further
research would be a bit of a waste due to the amount of information
contained in this article but I still explored deeper just to be sure.
When trying to find more information about women being brutally
treated during the Holocaust I simply googled Mistreatment of Women
during the Holocaust and the results surprised me. One of the first topics
that appeared I read into the article and found that it didnt even focus on
women but instead it was a personal testimony of someone whose
grandmother was involved directly with the Holocaust and I felt that this type
of article wouldnt fully support what I was interested in learning throughout

this course. The second article that appeared in my google search was the
article that I had originally felt was best for my research so I ended my
inquiry with the beginning article.
