Workshop model- Learning target- We will deepen our understanding
of the components of the workshop model.
Use to build a community of self-learners.
1. Set routines so students know what to expect daily.
2. Create & post co-constructed anchor charts( create them with
the kids so they will have ownership of them and have a
better understanding of what they have created).
3. Switch from the you will be doing, you will be learning TO
we will be doing this together & we will be learning this.
Components of the workshop model.
1. Warm up
2. Mini-Lesson/ Guided Practice
a. Introduce the learning target-explicit instruction on a
strategy, skill, concept, or process.
b. Make a connection- yesterday we learned.
c. Teach/model/demonstrate- today we will learn
d. Active involvement/guided practice- we do it or you do
it.
e. Link- send them off to do the independent practice;
heres what were working on, now go put it into
practice, off you go.
3. Independent practice:
a. Individual
b. Partner
c. Small group
4. Mid-Workshop Teaching
5. Wrap up
a. Reflect and share
1. Students share what they learned, read, wrote or
worked on, linked to the days lesson. Celebrate what
the kids just did! Could be turn and talk, share within
small groups, or anything similar.
2. Teacher reviews and clarifies key points.
