Primary Source Data Collection

Observation - observing the students working in 2 separate groups. Ideas are
shared, notes are taken, books are taken out and page numbers jotted for supporting
evidence of their point. What do I see happening? What kinds of pro-writing
behaviors do I see?
B.
Artifacts - collection of notes taken by groups that they shared with other group
on the board.
C.
Survey - of a kind... this is a test. The essays on the test include a question about
setting. Those students that chose this question offer material for deciding if the
subject of setting in American literature was well-taught, retained and presented as
an essay on the history test. The selection of this essay question of the 6 offered is
also an indication of whether setting was well-taught and students feel confident
enough to write about it on a test essay.
D.
Discussion with the students (in group) about setting. Inquiring and discoursing
on the topic to see if comprehension of the material is present.
