1861 > Beginning of Civil War
The Civil War began. The beginning of the Civil War marked the
unforgettable battle between slavery and non-slavery, and therefore the
north and the south. It is truly a remarkable part of the American History, for
at the end of it, slavery was abolished and the country was unified.

1865 > End of Civil War


Slavery was abolished. The North had won the war, and the Civil War came
to an end. This was a remarkable turning point of American history. It not
only established America as a slave-free country, but it made America a
much more powerful country through the unification. After this point, the

country went into a strict reconstruction era and spent a long time to recover

from the results of the war.

1910 -> Urban Population Over 100,000 reaches 22%


Urban settlement over 100,000 reached 22%. This year clearly marked the
urbanization of the United States. People were swiftly moving from rural
areas to populated urban areas. It was a clear indicator of the transition from
a lifestyle.

1899 -> Military Spending Reached its peak for the 19th century
In 1899, Military Spending reached its peak for the 19th century. This
unanticipated spending on military expenses was perhaps a foreshadowing
of a possible outcome that would render the use of the materials the money
has bought.
1904 -> Roosevelt Corollary Enunciated

This was a critical political year due to the enunciation of the Roosevelt
corollary. The Roosevelt corollary was so important because it was a
significant addition to the Monroe Doctrine and was very critical in
maintaining and strengthening American diplomacy.
1909 -> Congress Passes an amendment regarding the income tax
In this year, a very ambitious proposal was made. An income tax was
proposed and passed. However, it was ratified in 1913, only four years after.
1920 -> Small Cities became capable of buying a department store
In the 1910s, department stores were becoming more and more
commonplace with each year. Day after day, people were realizing the
importance and practicality of Departmental stores. The more interest the
department stores drew, the more the government realized their potential.
So, by 1920, every small city in the United States became capable of
purchasing a department store.
