She has been my student school counselor during the 2014-15 school year and I can recommend her without reservation for any school counseling position. In fact, any school would be lucky to have Lizzie as their counselor. During her year-long internship at Kelly Elementary School, I have watched Lizzie form meaningful relationships with many of our students. Her thoughtful attention while speaking to students has been noted by students and staff alike, She has a wonderful ability to make the students feel comfortable, listened to and welcome. At this point in the school year, when students ask to speak with the counselor, they ask for Lizzie as often as they ask to see me, which points to Lizzie’s strength in relationship building : Lizzie runs several small groups at Kelly Schoo! and creates a safe and caring environment within the context of the small group setting, On a daily basis Lizzie is called upon to response to a crisis situation, ‘whether it is a student who has run out of class or a student is erying in the bathroom, Lizzie is always prepared to manage an emergency situation. She has created a series of classroom guidance lessons to help reduce referrals among our third grade class. The data shows that her guidance lessons are working: there is a notable reduction in referrals among this section of the student population, Lizzie participates in our PBIS school wide activities by teaching common area expectations to all our classes. She has participated in 504 meetings, Student Success ‘Team meetings and consults with staff regarding student behavior. During her time at Kelly School Lizzie has learned some of the technical aspects of being a school counselor. Much more importantly, she has demonstrated since she first walked into our school building, that she has the heart and compassion to be a great school counselor.
