ABSTRACT

This study assessed the extension activities of local government agric officers in Kwara state The population for this
study consists of all agric officers in local government areas of Kwara state. A random sampling techniques was
used to select 120 agric officers from Edu, Ilorin south, Offa and Kaiama local government areas of Kwara State.
Data were obtained using questionnaires and analysed using frequency counts, percentage, chi-square and student ttest. Majority (35.0%) of the respondents fall within the age range of 21-30 years, 69.2% were male while 30.8%
were female. Also, 42.5% of the respondents were married and 20.8% were divorced. Majority (55.0%) of the
respondents were Muslims and 42.5% were Christians. The study revealed that lack of infrastructural facilities, poor
enumeration and poor motivation of staffs are the constraints facing agric officers in the local government. On the
basis of this finding age, gender, marital status, religion, academic qualification, position, grade level, years of
working experience and average monthly income of respondents have significant impact on the access to extension
activities in the study area age, gender, marital status and religion of the respondents have significant relationship
with the constraints facing the agric officers in the local government. Recommendations made among the others
include provision of good roads network, the job should be secured, regular payment of salary, recruitment of new
staffs and motivational attitude should be provided so as to improve the standard of living of agric officers.
