Cyber Security is sparking a 'Gold Rush'!
Cyber Security is one of the latest hot topics that you may well have come across recently, especially in the media, as they report on the world Parliaments seeking ways to reduce what they are now calling “Cyber Crime” & “online criminal activity.”
This not only impacts the all countries national Security with threats of terrorism but also covers things like online fraud and identity theft.
It is really important to understand that we have a responsibility as an ISP to ensure our network and infrastructure is as safe and secure as possible for our customers and that it also has no unintended consequences for the wider Internet infrastructure and security that it is connected into.
However as per Acura consulting, we share this responsibility and it is vitally important that home users take sensible precautions to protect their home devices as it is individual machines that are often targeted and compromised, possibly impacting many other Internet users as a result.
How secure is our data and does our organization is under risk of cyber threat. The company shouldn’t take cyber security lightly. Cyber attacks are not restricted to large companies, in past years hackers had targeted business having smaller revenue as security in those organization is very sloppy. In a recent study [ASSOCHAM] the number of cyber crimes in India may rise to 3, 00,000 in 2015. It is clear that no business is safe from cyber attacks and companies must take steps to reduce the vulnerabilities. Cyber attack can lead to loss of data, information leakage and IT risks and the company should be aware of the repercussions caused by it. Most of the company directors will admit that they haven’t discussed crisis response plan in case there is a breach in company’s security.
So billion dollar question is how can we make our business secure. By enacting firewalls, anti-virus and malware software, mail-filters and other digital defenses used across the business world are generally searching for external threats but major chunk of security issues arise within the organization: employees who are looking to defraud the organization. They might indulge in false company purchases to steal cash or data. So employees should be held accountable for the data they possessed or have access to and all employees should be aware of the cyber laws.
Thus protection is no longer as straightforward as installing an antivirus or putting a password. Attention toward protection of information and access to company’s infrastructure must be given high importance. Cyber security efforts are not bounded to one department or one group of employees. The effort should be comprehensive throughout the organization and federal cyber security agencies.
