General Industrial: ‘The specific caroon black pigment to be used is dependent on the binder and solvene system, jetness and undertone required, and the substrate For ‘exterior applications in general all carbon black pigments can be used and provide good stability with good weather-abilty. Typically atertreated catbon black pigments achieve better stabilization in the coating system and therefore best performance n terms of weather-bilt. Applications include general metal frishes, coll coatings, wood coatings, etc. Our latest development for this feld of application is Experimental Black XP8 412, ‘based as well on the new after treatment technolagy. This grade provides an excellent cost performance ratio. Tinting: Carbon black pigments have the ability to darken coatings, containing another pigment. Thisis most frequently used in the preparation of grey coatings. Typically LAMP BLACK 101 or large particle sized carbon black pigments are used, as they provide a blue undertone. Small particle sized carbon black pigments, used for tinting, would result in brown undertone, Conductive: Specially produced carbon black pigments impart electrical conductivity to coating systems, since ther addition provides a path forthe electrons to travel. Generally, a coating can be made antistatic or conductive by addition ofa high structured, medium particle sized carbon black pigment having low amount of surface oxides. Applications include electrostatic (positive and negative adjustment possible} floor coatings fr medica, shlelding, and packaging to protect electrical and electronic products, tankinner coatings for electro state discharge, and as well automotive primers wv: InUY crossinked coatings, relatively shor irradiation or drying times, are achieved by using low structured large particle sized oxidized fumace black pigments. The low oil absorption has the effect of providing acceptable viscosity and gloss, the large particle size imparts low UV absorption and the oxidized surface ensures a better stabilization Inthe specific binder systems Powder: In principle all carbon black pigments either after treated or non after treated can be used in most common powder coating systems. The ‘main decisive factor to achieve high jetness is the primary particle size of the carbon black pigment. Thus typically non after treated carbon black pigments ike eg. COLOUR BLACK FW 171, can achieve the same coloristic performance lke after teated grades, with best cost performance. In tint applications typically larger particle sized carbon black pigments can be used, i i “i F sronnnas Bomemesce sm brmwcnsscinsn seco © mrunrt depending on the tint strength required, Electrodepesition: Carbon black pigments with ow residual salt content are preferred for ED coating systems. Typically PRINTEX* 200 as ‘carbon black pigment without after: rocyer mg ge treatments recommended FDA: un ‘Carbon black pigments that comply with provisions of FDA 21 CFR§ 178.3297 are available. These pigments ae used in coatings that have indirect food contact, such as shelving, Jetness, undertone, ‘excellent dispersbilty and a high degree ‘of purity are some ofthe key attributes for 300 BET (m'/g] pigments used in such applications Coloring: Carbon black pigments impart colorstcatributes suchas jetness, undertone, opacity and adeitional traits such as gloss Jetness: Jets isthe intensity of the blackness that carbon black pigments impart oa binder. The intensity is dependent on particle size, surface ‘eatment, concentration, and wetout of the pigment during dispersion, Mass Undertone: Mass undertone is a critical part ofthe color specification for opaque articles colored with pigment blacks Undertone's the hue observed in 2 pure black coating. Different grades of carbon black pigments can exhibit varying degrees of blue to brown undercone, Le. after treated grades provide a bluer undertone. Tint Undertone: Tint undertone's observed in coatings that are dosed with small amount ‘of carbon black pigments, eg. adeltion toa white pigment to impart ‘grayness, Carbon black pigments with larger particle size impart a bluish hue in such applications Surface Treatment: -Atertveatment ofthe pigment surface increases the chemical groups, particularly carboxyl groups, making it more acidic or hydrophilic. An aftertreated pigment has lower binder demand or viscosity allowing higher loading, has better wetout which makes iteasierto disperse, and this results in better coloristic development. A coating having higher jens with a bluer undertone and high gloss is obtained. Fully Equipped Application Laboratory for Coatings: Assessment of coatings performance and properties using standatd test methods Selection of pigment to match etness, tint strength, and undertone properties Evaluation based on specific coating system & product recommendation Consultation with technical experts Analytical Laboratory Capabilities: Elemental analysis via EDS Optical microscopy and imaging system Colloidal property measurement Industry standard ASTM testing Influence of Particl lity by Coating System Large <——— Particle size ———> smal Full color Bg Blue cre Brown ‘Transparency - coloring Sight nd sete se “Also available as self-ispersing preparation XPB 430 = ~ -—— = —— —— 3 ——— = co. ‘s! “brownest” undertone (masstone) highest jetness || G22 = ‘=< e (GS highest tinting strength ff “bluest” undertone (masstone) lowest binder demand to SP highest pigment loading oes Not wen) <——— Surface, ———> Tested Low High ‘on = Wier Higher OFlONn 2238" CARBONS Focused.
