How To:

To add more points to the BCG bubble chart:

This is a bubble chart where the size is

represented by the area fo bubbles.

1) copy column D to column E

2) Click on a bubble in the chart, Excel higlights the
series range. Extend the series range to include
column E.

The plot area fill is a gif picture file constructed

in PowerPoint and gives the four quadrants for
the BCg Matrix.
The 'Make Pies' button copies a picture of each
pie chart constructed in the 'setup' sheet onto
each chart point. You need to make sure that
you have a pie chart named Pie_x for each
chart point, where x is the point number.
If you want more bubbles, make yourself more
pies. (Just copy those in the setup sheet)

You can do this by either changing the formula for

the chart series, or by clicking on the bottom right
placeholder of the selection boxes and dragging to
include the new data.
3) Go to the 'setup' sheet. Select the last pie by
clicking on the area just to the right of the pie.
Copy the pie. (Edit-Copy then select an empty cell
and Edit-Paste).
Rename the pie to 'Pie_4' (without the quotes).
You can rename the pie chart by holding the shift
key down and clicking on the pie, when you release
the shift key, the name of the object will show on
the top left name box (next to the formula bar).
The name will be something like 'Chart 6', change
this to 'Pie_4' and press Enter.
4) The new pie chart will point to the same data as
the chart you just copied. Click on the pie chart
and change the formula to =SERIES(,,bcg!$E$5:$E$6,1)
You may also want to change the pie colours at this
stage.
5) Go to the 'bcg' sheet, change the values for
'Competitor 4', and click on the 'Make Pies'
button.
