Draft 1/Issue 1 [Viewpoint] NFL CRIMES By: RYAN JANG 1A It seems that all football players these days are committing crimes, ranging from parking in handicapped spaces, to homicide. Since the year 2000, there have been over 655 arrests in the NFL. It is clear that this sport is associated with crimes, and even to this day player arrests are made weeks, sometimes days after another. [example] At this professional level crimes must stop, at least the serious ones. Many people including myself believe that the NFL must do more to keep the players in place. Though these athletes are certainly gifted with athletic talent, this doesnt put them at a superior level. All people are considered the same under the law, however athletes seem to think little of the repercussions. It is crucial that all personnel work collectively to solve this problem as a whole. There must be a policy change that prevents NFL players to worm their way out of punishment that comes as a result of the crimes they partake in. Though it may not be fair for NFL players, they should not be allowed to pay bail money to avoid jail. Teams and players who commit crimes should have more severe punishment. A $5,000 fine is definitely not enough to deter these athletes from breaking the law again.
