Content Objective(s):

SWBAT Solve equations with one variable and solve linear equations in more than one way.
Language Objective(s):
SWBAT explain verbally to teacher or to each other and written on a quiz, common assessment exit ticket, or
bell ringer the thought process of solving equations, and solving linear equations in more than one way.
Warm-up (engaging activity or transition into a lesson):
Solve the following multi-step equation

3(+2)

= 6 in two different ways.

Academic Vocabulary:

Lesson Outline (i.e., lesson delivery, procedures, or activities):
Warm up (5-8 min)
Individual: Building and solving equations worksheet questions #1-3 (20 min)
Individual: Building and solving equations REVISITED worksheet #1-3 (17-20 min)
As a class: Teacher will guide students on how to build equations from an answer (10 min)
In pairs: Students will build two equations each in which they are to use all four operations and four different
integers. One completed, the students will then solve each others equations and compare that their answers
are the same. (25 - 30 min)
Closure activity question: Reflect on the last activity (pair work) What part was difficult? What was fairly
easy? Did you both get the same answers? Why or why not? Did you make any mistakes solving or building
your equations? Why or why not?
