We live in a changing and dynamic world where both individuals and
organizations have to change and adapt to those changes. Organizations
have to go through bigger changes during mergers and acquisitions. As
its the process of integrating two or more companies having diverse
values and cultures into one unified entity. Thus during merger and
acquisition,

change

managers

face

many

challenges

like

cultural

management, stress management, employees might resist to change, job

security and low management. All these factors leads to the change and
inappropriate handling of change management
As per Acura Consulting, change is an activity which provides increased
value to the business from the use of new or enhanced IT systems and
implemented with a minimized risk to existing IT infrastructure.
Within an IT world, there are a lot of changes. There are new codes
coming up, new versions of programs coming, new software and the list
goes on. However, such the minimizing the risk in IT is not an easy task. It
has been reported that almost 70-80 % of IT services are interrupted by
changes made. However, change is something which has to be made for a
company to develop.
To bring about change and minimize risk, ITIL has been introduced in to
the IT industry. ITIL can be defined in simple terms as a collection of the
experiences of companies trying to bring about the changes and how they
brought it.
In an ITIL framework, changes are viewed as requests for consideration
which are reviewed at the change advisory board (CAB) and is chaired by
the change manager along with the service owners, IT workers from
different disciplines and the person who wants to make the request where
discussions about the risks involved, steps to prevent the risk and
strategies to bring about the change are discussed.
Currently, ITIL is updated at Axelos, a joint-venture company created by
the U.K. Cabinet Office and Capita PLC and the latest version came in
2011 and is known as ITIL 2011.
