E-portfolio Reflection
For my e-portfolio I included a variety of lessons and items that I
have created throughout my two years in the Elementary Education
Program. I have displayed these items to show my understanding and
growth based on the DSU Department of Education DESERT model
standards. The DESERT model includes: Diversity, Effective pedagogy,
Subject matter, Environment, Reflective, and Teacher disposition. The
items presented are signature assignments that I have developed in a
variety of subject areas that demonstrate how I am a caring,
competent, and qualified educator. Each of these assignments also
falls under one of the DESERT standards.
In creating my student assessment profile I demonstrated my
ability to understand and recognize diversity differences through
applying culturally responsive curricula into my classroom (DM1). My
student assessment profile demonstrates that I am a caring teacher
who is willing and capable of meeting the needs of all learners. As I
began to this assignment I had the opportunity of getting to know two
students very well. I quickly learned about their interests and how I
could use those interests to further their education through an
education plan.
The comprehension lesson I prepared shows my ability to
implement multiple assessments to measure learner knowledge and

skill (DM2). This transpired through the use of formative and

summative assessments. Throughout the lesson I used a variety of
leveled questions that would allow students to demonstrate their
understanding and further allow me to adjust the lesson accordingly.
The summative assessment consisted of a graphic organizer that was
accommodated for specific learners and allowed students to
demonstrate their knowledge growth throughout the lesson. This
demonstrated my ability to be a caring teacher.
To demonstrate my ability of confidence in subject matter
knowledge, and the use of technology that pursues advance
professional practices I created a history production (DM3). This history
production began with a vast amount of research on a historical event
and turned into a video that included a recorded script, images, and
music. Upon completing this history production I am confident in my
ability to implement technology into the classroom and shows that I
am a competent educator.
In completing a classroom management plan I displayed my
ability to use classroom management strategies to create a safe and
cooperative learning environment (DM4). My classroom management
plan consists of a variety of letter home, classroom rewards, and
classroom procedures to maintain a positive learning environment in
which students are encouraged to cooperate with their peers.

To exhibit my ability to seek learning experiences as a source of

reflection and use the data to reflect and adapt planning and practice
as a qualified educator, I recorded and analyzed myself teaching a
math lesson (DM5). As I watched and reflected on the video I was able
to see what things I wanted to improve on as well as my strengths as a
teacher. This was a great learning experience and something that I
plan to incorporate into my career so I can continue to improve my
practices.
My educational philosophy and reflection demonstrates my
professional teaching dispositions (DM6). My philosophy states my
views on how I plan to run my classroom and teach my students.
Throughout this artifact I describe how I am going to take care of my
students needs and make each student feel acceptable. I believe that
every student should feel as if they can accomplish anything and I plan
to help my students understand and believe this themselves. This
demonstrates my ability to be a qualified educator.
Upon completing each of these artifacts I learned a great deal
about how to be an effective educator. Each of the artifacts
demonstrates abilities I have learned and knowledge I have acquired
throughout the program, each meeting the DESERT model standards. I
now feel confident in my abilities and perceive that I have the tools
and knowledge to be a caring, competent, and qualified educator.
