One thing that shows my character traits and shows the hardworking determined
personality is the Distinguished Secretary of the Year Award. Walking up on the stage being one
of the few Secretaries in our Division felt amazing. Putting my all into something and receiving
the award at the end of the year was nice but what was really touching was the feeling of how
many people's lives were changed by high school kids giving up time and energy just for
community service.
Many do not know what Key Club truly is, they think of a metal object that opens doors
but the name Key Club is just a symbol. Keys open doors and Key Club for me opened the door
to all the community service that needs to be done, it opened the door to all the opportunities of
helping someone in need. Freshman and Sophomore year was just about the service for me,
wasnt to much involved went to a couple events a year. It at first was just a way to work towards
my purple cord, during the last months of my junior year something else bloomed in my head.
An idea that if I ran for office I could make a difference, an idea that helping run this club is
what would help me develop skills that high school couldnt. And it did.
My life became MRFs (monthly report forms), attending events, long shifts working
Kiddieland on the weekend, keeping track of all the sign-in sheets of every event, and keeping a
record of everyone in the club's community service hours for our advisor to look over at the end

of their four years. Keeping a binder with multiple tabs to organize sign in sheets for our more
than 20 events a year, some recurring, taught me organization. Seeing the smiling faces of
children play on inexpensive rides at Kiddieland gave me a passion to keep helping children and
keep giving back.
The importance of this accomplishment is the work that was completed, the effort put it,
and doing it for the good of my community. Learning a lesson from Key Club read the overall
achievement the award was just just a bonus.
