ROCKLAND WOODS Elementary 18201 Rockland Drive, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740 Phone: 301.766.8485 Fax: 301.766.8498 February 9, 2015 Dear Parents/Guardians: I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to you. My name is Brian Schultheis, and I am a MAT-Elementary candidate with Frostburg State University at USMH. I will be completing my second student teaching internship with Ms. Lewis over the course of the next few months. Iam extremely happy to be back at Rockland Woods Elementary as I completed my first internship in the first grade here at Rockland. It has been a pleasure getting to know the students over the past two weeks. [tis truly an incredible group of children; they have welcomed me with open arms. I would also like to fill you in on some of the requirements that I have to complete during my internship. I have to create and teach two five-day units while I am teaching full-time. As part of the requirement, I have to videotape myself teaching and submit it to my supervisors at Frostburg. 1 also have to put together an electronic profile exhibiting my abilities in various areas of the classroom. In order to do this, I would like to use my iPad to take pictures of the students working or their completed work so that I could use the pictures in my portfolio. Any student work would have the names removed, and I would not include any names on the pictures. The pictures would not be scen by anyone outside of the Education Department at Frostburg State University at USMH. There is one final piece of videotaping that I was hoping to be able to accomplish this semester. Iam part of an ineredibly talented group of people in the MAT-E program, and the hirit process is going to be extremely competitive. As such, I have been looking for ways in which I could set myself apart from the rest of the applicants in our area. I have decided to create a video documentary using the students’ commentary as to why they think I would make a good teacher and should be hited, This video will only be seen by the school administrators with whom I interview for potential positions within the county. T do not want to photograph or videotape any students without permission from you, so I am asking that you please indicate whether or not you grant me permission to photograph and videotape your student. Thank you in advance for your prompt response. I am looking forward to working with the students. Sincerely, Brian WASHINGTON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS ‘Providing World-Class Educational Opportunities for All Students” www.weps.k12.md.us
