Reflection
This semester has covered many topics, especially the broad subject of social
constructivism. The class readings and assigned films helped us analyze and learn the different
social constructions and how they are used. Learning about this was like opening a third eye
because it helped me open my mind to new things I wouldnt have thought of or even examined
if it wasnt for the class. For example, Project Space, which was the second focus in the
semester, was about analyzing films and depicting the different social constructions going on. I
did my second essay on the movie White Chicks and noticed all the different stereotypes
within the film, mostly the stereotypes that are hidden in a way or generally unnoticed.
My revisions in both essays were mostly going more in depth to explaining my ideas and
also fixing grammatical errors. Essay one when discussing my job, I had to give more examples
of how I was an outcast and explain how my culture and my jobs culture, Hispanic, come
together and how it affects me. I went more in depth with explaining my ideas and the quotes I
used from my sources. I did the same with essay two. There was less revision on my second
essay, but I still had to revise different parts in the essay like making new paragraphs. I explained
my ideas more in this essay too and changed my its to what I was actually talking about.
The revisions and learning about social constructivism has helped me improve as a writer
over the course of the semester. I have a better understanding of how to state my thesis, how to
use it thoroughly throughout the essay when explaining ideas and, and also citing sources.
