Being Average
James Baldwin and Mike Rose have both similar and opposing viewpoints in terms of
their experiences and opinions when discussing educations effect on the ideal representation of a
model citizen.
James Baldwin and Mike Rose have similar viewpoints due partly to their contrary
experiences and opinions. James Baldwin describes childrens education back in the era of the
Third Reich where boys and girls . . . became barbarians (Baldwin, paragraph 2). When
describing the education today, he says, any Negro who is born in this country and undergoes
the American educational system runs the risk of becoming schizophrenic (paragraph 2). It is
alluded in his essay that he believes that America brainwashes their citizens, contrary to Roses
experience.
In conclusion, James Baldwin and Mike Rose have varying viewpoints concerning the
life of the model student by education. As you can see, their viewpoint with the school
educational system differ in terms of experiences, opinions, and voice.
