Seven more routes are to be added. These trains which have been operated under dynamic fare system have earned approximately 40 per cent additional revenue as compared to trains operated on normal fares. They ensure assured seats and al times faster service. + Asuccessful trial of semi high speed trains with 160 kmph has been conducted between New Delhi-Agra. The other identified sectors for 160 kmph are: Delhi-Agra, Delhi- Chandigarh, Delhi-Kanpur, Nagpur-Bilaspur, Mysore-Bengaluru-Chennal, Mumbal- Goa, Mumbal-Ahmedabad, Chennai-Hyderabad and Nagpur-Secunderabad. Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor has been identified as the first corridor. This World Heritage Site includes few spectacular tourist sites like Jwalaji Temple, Brijeshwari Temple, Chamunda Temple, Palampur, Baijnath, Dharamshala. i ia Sra ae s E E = Darjeeling Himalayan Railways (DHR) The toy train on the Darjeeling Himalayan section is not merely a source of delight for the young and old, it also represents the engineering skills of the highest order. This 83 km long section connecting Darjeeling with the railhead at Siliguri is of great importance and has been bestowed World Heritage Site status. The train passes through dense forests of Sukna and it chugs along the hill slopes and at places where a clear path is not available. Ghum station is the second highest railway station in the world to be reached by steam locomotive E E SS ES Ly ce S| Matheran Light Railway Matheran, discovered in 1850, has since been a nature lovers’ delight. The journey involves an adventurous two-hour ascent in a narrow gauge train, with food vendors and monkeys jumping on and offas the valley glides by sedately. Nilgiri Mountain Railway Nilgiti Mountain Railway in Tamil Nadu is another tourist attraction. The railway stil relies on its fleet of steam locomotives. Nilgiti Mountain Railway comes under the jurisdiction of the newly formed Salem Division. In July 2005, UNESCO added the Nilgiri Mountain Railway as an extension to the World Heritage Site of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the site then became known as "Mountain Railways of India.” Hill Railways Kalka Shimla Railway ‘Ambala Division is the proud custodian of “WORLD HERITAGE SITE-KALKA SHIMLA RAILWAY" The line measuring 95.57 km. from Kalka to Shima was finally opened for traffic on November 9, 1903, ‘As per “Guinness Book of Rail Facts & Feats’, the Kalka ~Shimla Railway line has been described as “The Greatest Narrow Gauge Engineering in India”.
