Queensland recorded the thirdhighest population


growth rate (1.5%) of all states and territories in the 12
months to 30 September 2014 and was the same as the
national average of 1.5% (Figure 2).
Natural increase made the largest contribution to
population growth in Queensland in the 12 months to 30
September 2014 (49.8%) followed by net overseas
migration (41.6%) and net interstate migration (8.6%)
(Table 1).
In the 12 months to 30 September 2014, natural increase
(births minus deaths) was 34,603 persons, an increase
from the 34,512 persons recorded during the 12 months
to 30 June 2014.
Net overseas migration to Queensland in the 12 months
to 30 September 2014 was 28,878 persons. This was
lower than the level recorded during the 12 month period
to 30 June 2014 (30,270 persons).

Queensland's preliminary ERP at 30 September 2014


was 4,740,927 persons (20.1% of the Australian
population). This reflects an increase of 69,423 persons
over the 12 months, and 18,480 persons since 30 June
2014 (Figure 1).
