Technology is a body of knowledge used to create tools, develop skills, and extract or
collect materials and information. It is also the application of science, the combination of the
scientific method and materials used to meet an objective or solve a problem. No longer do our
children learn in the isolation of a classroom. No longer is memorization of facts and figures the
goal. My personal philosophy of Educational Technology has varied since I have had the
opportunity to learn more about technology in my Educational Technology course of study. I
believe that there is nothing wrong with adjusting my philosophy because technology is not
stagnant, it is dynamic. I believe as a teacher, I should continually educate myself about new
technology so my students may benefit from my knowledge.
Furthermore, technology in the classroom is not only necessary to engage students, but it
is an essential tool for the future. Every day our lives become more deeply engrained in
technology. Technology has changed or modes of communication, transportation, production,
etc. If one does not keep current with technology, he/she will be lost in the future. We need to
teach our children in respect to todays world, not only so they can survive and maintain but so
that they may flourish. Amazing inventions have been created using technology, inventions that
increase production, communication, make the impossible possible and even save lives.
Today, technology is the need of the day and one of the most discussed subjects of our
everyday lives. It helps us to access on-line materials, course work assignments and have class
discussions with classmates and teachers even when we are not in class. With the coming of the
21st century, our era can be characterised as the age of technology; it literally surrounds us night
and day. Technology especially in terms of digital communications permeates our work and play.
It has transformed not only the worlds of work and leisure, but the world of education as well.
