In Diamond Bar, California, a 21 year old woman, Olivia Carolee Culbreath, was driving
on the wrong way of the 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar and killed 6 people on Sunday. Officials
began receiving calls from witnesses about a wrong way driver in a Chevrolet Camaro on the
southbound lanes of the 57 freeway. Witnesses said that the Camaro was traveling 100 mph.
The Chevrolet Camaro then struck a red 1996 Ford Explorer causing the Explorer to collide with
a grey 2006 Ford Freestyle. Three people were ejected from their cars. Four people were
pronounced dead at scene. Two other people were transported to UCI Medical center, but died
soon after. The suspect is now convicted of drunken driving and manslaughter and was was
hospitalized at County USC Medical Center with a broken femur and ruptured bladder.
In the case of a car collision, like the one above, I would first make sure the scene is
safe and triage victims. Next, I would check for levels of consciousness by asking the 4
questions (Name? Place? Time? Situation?). I would also check for levels of responsiveness by
using AVPU (Alert, Verbal, Painful, Responsive). I would check to see if the victim's needs BLS
or ALS and needs help breathing (ABC). If the victim appear dead and show signs of it
(decapitation, rigor mortis, tissue decomposition, dependent lividity), I would proceed the care
necessary for victims who are dead at scene. If the victim shows indications is chance of
survival, continue to provide care. Then, I would stabilize the victims and extricate victims if
needed. Afterwards, I would transfer the the victims onto an ambulance and transport them to
the nearest hospital, where I will give a full report on the patients condition to the doctors,
nurses, and technicians who will continue treatment.
