Immigration
Immigration is nothing new to the United States. Every single day thousands of
immigrants come America in attempt to escape poverty, gain freedom, and to earn an income.
There are many legal and illegal immigrants that are a big contribution to the U.S economy. Not
only do these immigrants contribute to the economy, but also the environment. Although one
may argue that immigration should not be allowed any longer in America due to negative affects,
immigration provides beneficial opportunities to immigrants and the United States.
Immigration improves the United States economy in various way. In order to be
successful in this country, you must be lucrative. Immigrants goals in entering America is to
accomplish the American dream. The American dream is have everything you need for you
your family and have a little extra spending money. You can not achieve the American dream
without working hard and flourishing. When immigrants first come to the America, their main
goal is to find a job as fast as they can. Whether the immigrants working in the American
workforce are legal or illegal, they are still contributing to our countrys economy. Immigrants
work for low wages, therefore business owners and companies can make more of their product
and lower the price. According to The Fiscal Times, immigration expands the American
workforce and increases economic efficiency. They also argue that without immigrant labor,
prices in agriculture, leisure, and hospitality sectors would be substantially higher (How
Immigrants Boost). Not only do companies and business owners benefit from immigrants due

to the low working wages, but American workers benefit as well. Immigration was correlated
with increasing earnings of Americans by 0.7 percent and is expected to contribute to an increase
of 1.8 percent over the long-term (Ten Ways Immigrants ).
In spite of the fact that immigration boosts the economy, immigration has a huge negative
impact on the environment. As a result of mass immigration, environmental degradation has
increased. Immigration in the United States is causing overpopulation which is leading to the
accumulation of environmental degradation and pollution. We are depleting or polluting
freshwater much faster than it is being replaced. Mass immigration exacerbates the shortage of
freshwater (Immigration Issues). By reason of immigration, Americas natural resources are
declining. According to Immigration Issues, reducing immigration levels is a necessary part of
working toward sustainability (Immigration Issues).
Even though there are both beneficial and non beneficial sides to immigration, my claim
is that immigration should be allowed in the United States. Immigrants may pollute the Earth,
but that is a problem that we can work towards fixing. Legal and illegal immigrants contribute a
great deal to the economy. Immigrants account for about 16 percent of the U.S labor force, with
24.3 percent of workers who are foreign-born and over the age of 25 not completing high school,
compared with merely 4.8 percent of native-born workers (How Immigrants Boost).
Immigrants supply the United States with workforce and create more jobs. I not only believe
immigrants should be allowed to come in to the United States because of the positive effects to
the economy, but also because of the positive affects the immigrants are gaining.
Immigrants are earning many social, economic, and educational opportunities by coming
to the United States while contributing economy. Immigration is a necessity to our economy.
We also get technological and education benefits from immigration. Even if we tried to stop

immigration, immigration is going to occur and still does illegally. Immigration may have
negative impacts on our environment, but we benefit majorly from immigration.
