Randy's Mufflers and More, LUC 2001 Paramount Bivd Amarillo, Tx 79109 To: Senator Kelly Hancock Representative Glovianni Capriglione | am writing to protest the proposed bill. | am a small business owner, a female business owner in a male dominant business of auto repair. My business is located in Amarillo, Tx and has been in the family for many years. After my husband's death, | took on this business that took long hours, hard work; setbacks, disappointments but also with the entrepreneurial spirit of a bright future ahead. ‘What most people don’t understand or even know is that America was and is made of people like me, small business owners. Not the huge drug and auto manufacturers or IBM, etc... but mom and pop shops like me, my cpa, my cleaners, my mechanic, etc. and all of us need our attorneys. When the storm hit Amarillo May 2013, it damaged my property so badly, l could not operate the business normally. My roof leaked into the inside and none of the interior office, waiting room, entrance could be used. We had to move everything in the garage and operated out of there. When | called my insurance company, | was told to get anyone I could for there were no roofers they knew that wasn’t already overly booked by the storm. It was almost two weeks before | get an adjuster to come ‘out to my property and | had to call more than once and had been lost on someone's desk. t had already hhad to start my work being done and when the adjuster came out, told me the work was good and was being done properly which it was not. | tried repeatedly to get the adjuster to return to look at my roof and he never came, | was out almost $30,000 of my own money to repair what I could. | never got reimbursed until September after being told | would get the money quicker than that. How many people do you know that would be able to operate with taking that money out of their pockets and have to wait for over three months to get paid? | had to use a credit card and pay interest until | was paid. | did not receive enough money to fix my problems nor would they address the issue of the roof. | would like to ask where was | to go but to an attorney for help? 1 have never sued anyone and only wanted my business to be back to where it needed to be. My attorney asked nothing from me but to say they would only want to be paid if they received money for me. it was not only the best option for ‘me but the only option. | think we should always have the right to fight for what is right. As a mom and pop owner, I know | couldn't stay in business if | didn’t treat people right. Why should an insurance company who have so many rules of what they won't do, have the right to treat people any way they want with no one watching over them? I can't imagine how much money they would keep to themselves if they had the right of screwing people over which is what you are trying to pass. Ettie Crutchfield La3-/s
