Undergraduate Grading System Fall 1998 to the Present:

Course Classiication: Courses numbered 100 up to 500 carry undergraduate credit and are
applicable to the degree; courses numbered below 100 do not count towards the degree.
A = Excellent 4.0; A- = Excellent 3.67; B+ = Good 3.33; B = Good 3.0; B- = Good 2.67; C+ =
Satisfactory 2.33; C = Satisfactory 2.0; C- = Satisfactory 1.67; D = Poor 1.0; F = Failure 0.0.
The grade of Pass (P) or Satisfactory (S) earned in a course indicates that the hours for the
course have been earned and applied toward the degree.
The grade of Incomplete (I) is recorded when a student has done work of a passing grade in a
course but has not completed the work.
The grade of Withdrawal (W) is recorded automatically for all courses dropped from the
second through the 14th week of the semester(prior to Fall 2010, W grades were not recorded
until the third week of the term; until 1993, the grade of W or WF was recorded for courses
dropped after the ifth week of the semester based on course work to date).
The grade Not Reported (NR) is recorded when a faculty member has not been able to submit
grades to the registrar by the appointed time.
The grade of Unoficial Withdrawal (WU) is recorded for a student who never attended any
courses through the second week or who stopped attending all courses by the end of the sixth
week of the semester, and who failed to oficially withdraw and who failed to respond to
inquiries from the Ofice of the Registrar.
The grade of Withdrawal for Non-Attendance (WW) is recorded for a student who either never
attended a course for which the student registered or who ceased attending the course. The
student failed to oficially withdraw from the course.
The grade of Administrative Withdrawal (WX) is recorded for a student who has had to
withdraw from college due to serious illness or other extraordinary circumstances. This grade
requires the written approval of the dean of the college.
The No Credit (NC) is an option only for the removal of an incomplete grade.
The grade of In Progress (IP) is recorded when a course spans more than one semester, and a
grade cannot be awarded until the course is completed.
All credit is recorded in semester hours.
The cumulative grade point average is calculated by dividing the quality points earned by the
semester hours attempted. No quality points are awarded for F, AU, I, P, S, W, WF, NC, WU, WW,
WX, IP and NR grades.

Graduate Schools
Course Classiication Courses numbered 500 and above are graduate-level courses carrying
graduate credit.
Current Grading System The following grading system is in effect for all graduate schools
(historical differences are noted below):
A = 4.0; A- = 3.67; B+ = 3.33; B = 3.0; B- = 2.67; C+ = 2.33; C = 2.0; C- = l.67; F = 0.0.
I = Incomplete; NC = No Credit; AU = Audit; IP = In Progress; W = Withdraw; P = Pass; S =
Satisfactory; WX = Administrative Withdrawal; NR = Not Reported; WU = Unoficial
Withdrawal; WW= Withdrawal for Non-Attendance.
Total hours earned is calculated by adding Satisfactory or Pass/Fail hours to Hours Earned.

Fall 1971 to Summer 1977:

Credit hours were relected in units: 1 unit = 4 semester hours.
The grading system was as follows: A = 3 points per unit; B = 2 points per unit; C = 1 point per
unit; D and F = 0 points per unit. The average was computed by dividing grade points by units
attempted excluding those units earning P grades
(i.e., the average included only those courses in which letter grades were earned).
