During my time at Interlake High School | expanded my knowledge on assessing environmental, developmental, or socia/emotional issues that may contribute to the decreased functioning ability of a student. | am familiar with the signs and symptoms of drug use and abuse, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and child abuse in adolescents. In addition to recognizing the symptoms, | have collaborated with several agencies while at Interlake including Youth Eastside Services and Consejo Counseling Services to help students find on-going treatment. | have also worked directly with the director of Eastside Academy and learned about the various alternative educational options that are available to students who may struggle with the issues above. These experiences have helped me to gain a greater insight into the barriers that may affect a student's success and how to address the issue effectively.
