Writing Reflection
I believe that my writing has tremendously improved since August. I have learned how to
write better and form an argument better. In the beginning of the year, I was nervous to be in an
AP class and did not know if it was plausible for me to exceed in the class. I was scared I would
be patronized for not having the same writing abilities as my fellow school mates. The first paper
I wrote was First Day of School Object. I remembered I struggled trying to find a creative way
to relate myself to an inanimate object. For example, I wrote, The light bulb relates to me
because my idea making can be a slow process, but when they spark, they are great ideas.
The I Just Wanna Be Average paper was the first time I had to write about an authors
voice. Comparing Mike Roses voice to James Baldwin really widened my knowledge on
authors writing styles. Ever since, I have been able to analyze other authors pieces easily. My
ability to write thesis statements has improved as well. In I Just Wanna Be Average I wrote, In
his essay, Baldwin discusses the meaning of education, how the educational system favors the
elite, and how society wants the lesser students to accept being average. I really feel that my
thesis statements have become stronger throughout the year.
The term paper really refreshed my memory on how to write a research paper. My topic
was gender inequality in the movie industry. I had the opportunity to learn more about a subject

that I was not very familiar on. Some of my friends believed I would be biased writing this paper
since I am a girl, but I included evidence that backed up my argument.
The in class essays also improved my writing. I feel like they will prepare me for the
exam since it teaches me how to time myself. In conclusion, I am very happy with my writing
abilities after this year. I am excited for the years to come because I can use the skills I learned
this year forever.
