UNIVERSITY OF DENVER DANIEDS meee July 24, 2002 Re: Kevin Canada [am writing to strongly recommend Kevin Canada for your fellows program. He is an ‘outstanding candidate. [am 2 faculty member in the Daniels College of Business atthe University of Denver, and Mr. Canada was a student in my Executive MBA course on “Values in Management." He was one of the most outstanding members ofa class of upwardly mobile managers and did exemplary work. He was extremely dedicated and diligent and always went the extra mile to both contribute tothe class and get the most out ofthe class. He was also an excellent communicator in both his verbal participation and written contributions and often seized the initiative in leading the discussion in valuable directions, His analysis was consistently sharp incase studies, and he often brought new insights to the material we discussed. Both his exams and written projects were ata very high level Due to his prior experiences and interesting background, Mr. Canada was an especially valued member of the class, He would be able to make connections between issues We s discussed and the real world, and his own well-defined motivations and values were helpful elements in our class discussions and consideration of various issues. The Executive MBA program at the Daniels College of Business is designed to give students the tools and perspectives for corporate/organizational leadership. These involve quantitaive, qualitative, and policy-making skills. I believe Mr. Canada excels on all those fronts. My own course in “Values in Management” emphasizes key corporate pressures and issues, including those of contemporary significance like corporate governance, crisis management, corporate criminal liability, interest groups, ‘media relations, and corporate politcal activities. It also has global component and addresses the operations and impact of key intemational organizations. Mr. Canada has @ firm grasp of those areas, and his own projects on global warming and the automobile Industry were outstanding. He demonstrated a high level ofboth research and analytical skills in those projects Beyond his academic skills, his life experiences also make him an especially outstanding candidate for your program and organization. He has gained a diverse range of business skills through various ventures and positions. Further, through his experience in the tary and Special Forces, he has gained knowledge of other cultures, language skills, and leadership kills, Those should make him an even more valuable colleague and fellow. [reiterate my strong support for Mr. Canada’s application. Should you have any {questions please don’t hesitate to call me at 303-871-2634, Sincerely, iff M. [have had the opportunity to ‘observe his performance in class. In addition, we have had extensive discussion outside of class relative to his career goals and objectives. As for Kevin Canada’s credentials, they are quite extensive. They range from ‘management and administration in several private sector orgtnizations to governmental, This bread and depth of experience would truly be an asset, In terms of my personal interaction with Kevin, I should state, atthe outst, that his work was supers. Students in the Executive MBA program had to take an intial idea and carry it through to a feasibility study and, ultimately, 2 business plan, ‘Kevin's work was thorough and it demonstrated his strong analytic eapabilities He received an A for the Rusiness Plan class. Out of ie peer, he was the only one to receive this grade—further evidence of his work ‘An additional point that I would like to raise is that Kevin feels very strongly about his commitment to professional growth and development.
