Supervisor: The supervisor should write an evaluation of the student and send it to the instructor by semester's end. It should be signed and on company letterhead. This letter should verify the number hours the student has worked and give a descriptive evaluation of the quality of work provided by the student during the internship. A copy of the evaluation should be provided to the student. Please note that students will be allowed to view the evaluation. Instructor’s access to evaluate the student Early in the internship the student should coordinate and the organization should welcome an onsite visit at the worksite for the instructor. The onsite visit should include a tour of the facility and the student’s workspace, and an opportunity to meet and talk briefly with the supervisor. Student Intern’s Goals and Objectives (including project plan) Goal: Improve writing skills through experience while on the job. Meet with supervisors to go over editing and measure progress throughout the semester. Objective: Write at least 5 blog posts for the Parenting Corner blog ‘Objective: Gain experience in interviewing clinicians and staff for blog posts and website stories Goal: Expand knowledge and skills in developing public relation campaigns through general, media, the creation of media kits, and public service announcements or press releases. Objective: Train to use Vocus software to target reporters for pitches Objective: Assist with media monitoring on a weekly basis. This will help ensure the Children’s National target audience is reached effectively Project plan: Assist with integration of website for the Children’s Research Institute, the research arm of the organization, into the main public-facing website, ChildrensNational.org The website is a vehicle used to promote the mission of the hospital and establish its reputation as a world leader in pediatric healthcare and research. Weather emergency plan and absenteeism policy If inclement weather or illness impacts work hours, Amber will make up any hours that are missed by coming in earlier or staying later on her appointed days. She will have the option to telecommute and to remain in contact via email and telephone during her work hours.
