Plant/ Animal Interactions

The flower known as Mr. Goodbud attracts butterflies as well as pollinators such
as bees which are very important to the spread of pollen and flowers.

Achillea vulgaris attracts butterflies. It also is deer resistant which is important so

that the deer dont eat all of our new flowers.
Cape Blanco is a great ground cover and it is also deer resistant.
Agapanthus 'Storm Cloud' attracts butterflies as well as hummingbirds.
Soil
In order to prepare our soil we are going to use the sheet mulching method. We collected
cardboard and coffee grounds. We also have access to wood chips at school. We started by
pulling up some of the weeds in our selected area. This allowed us to mark out the area we will
turn into a garden. Next we laid down the cardboard and put coffee grounds and wood chips on
top. We then sprayed it with water. We will continue to build up the layers of this material.
Layout
We are not completely sure about our layout yet. We are planning on getting the plants and
organizing them in a way that is appealing as well as beneficial to the animals.
