Policies and Procedures Policies All copies of policies can be found via the Office Administration network, but any relevant policies willbe available on the curriculum network under policies such as: + Student Wellbeing Engagement Policy + Anti-bullying and Cyber bullying Policy ‘© eSmart Policy ‘* Acceptable Use Agreement Staff and Students ‘+ First Aid Policy and Procedures © Homework Policy © Sunsmart Policy © Uniform Policy Induction program All new staff, returning staff or short term CRTs (Casual Relief Teachers) need to complete the Induction Program including OHS induction. Yard duty and duty of care Duty of Care Principals and teachers are held to a high standard of care in relation to students. The duty requires principals and teachers to take all reasonable steps to reduce risk, including: ‘+ Provision of suitable and safe premises ‘Provision of adequate systems of supervision ‘+ _ Implementation of strategies to prevent bullying + Ensuring that medical assistance is provided to a sick or injured student. These guidelines cover: 1. Organisation and supervision of the playground Risk management plans forall excursions, school camps, and other off-site or outside school hours activities 3. Use of technology in the classroom, ‘Supervision of the Playground: ral ‘© The school playground is supervised from 8:45am ~ 3:45pm, ‘© Two teachers ere on duty during the following times: 8:45- 9:00am, 11:00- 11:15am, 11:15 — 11:30am. 1:30- 2:00pm, 2:00- 2:30pm and 3:30 -3:45pm, ‘© Supervising teachers wear orange vests and carry a yard duty folder. Specific * Please ensure that one Yard Duty Teacher remains at the top of the asphalt area near the new playground equipment. Please watch that games on the oval include no tackling or rough play. * The other Yard Duty Teacher needs to patrol the Junior Playground, top basketball court and breezeways. ‘© Please use the behaviour incentives-raffle tickets and house-points tokens. * Eating area is outside the Office on Canteen days. ‘© No litter should be taken out into the playground, * Students without a broad brimmed hat must remain in the area outside the Office. * Please have no tolerance on swearing and bad language. Appropriate responses may include walking with teacher, sitting on stage area or RJ room for loss of playtime. © Out of bounds areas include: Junior Playground for all Years 3-6 students Behind the Art/Music room Junior School deck ‘Area from Canteen to the Bike Shed. ‘© Risky behaviour such as — climbing trees, throwing sand or sticks, jumping off equipment, doing flips, hand stands ete. are not permitted. + If incidents or conflicts cannot be resolved in the yard, please send to the Restorative Justice room for resolution. © Ensure RU slips are filled in accurately including the date and name of student{s) for fling. Ensure current RJ slips are placed in the RI box. © Please check the folder for information regarding behaviour or particular concerns. Classroom Supervision ‘* Students are only permitted in classrooms outside instructional time if accompanied by ‘another student with the teacher present, © Teachers can only ask a student to remain in during recess or lunchtime for half the allocated time. ‘* Classroom rules and expected behaviour are to be displayed in the classroom after Professional Learning Responding to student safety concerns All teachers have a duty of care for all students. First Aid or Accidents: Students are to be sent to the Office/First Aid room for care. Our policy is that for all injuries to the head, parents are called by First Aid staff. All First Aid incidents are recorded in the First Aid book. Critical Incidents: Are to be reported to the Principal and/or Assistant Principals. Bullying/Harassment/Ageressive behaviour: Are to be reported to Principal and Assistant Principals. Cyber bullying incidents are to be recorded on the ‘Cyber Bullying’ register. Mandatory Reporting: All matters must be reported via the Principal or Assistant Principals, Protecting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is everyone’s responsibilty. All staff members need to complete the Mandatory Reporting eLearning module. Be aware of students making disclosure in classroom discussions ‘and always remind them that names should not be used in such forums. Be available for students. Who you believe may need to share a personal concern, Professional Learning Teams Teachers at Ballam Park School operate as a Professional Learning Team and there is a whole school ‘approach and a shared responsibilty forall students’ wellbeing. Protocols for these teams include: * adopt a sense of responsibility in and for the group * attend to others and listen ‘+ co-operate in good faith ‘+ aim for consensus decision -making ‘© confront problems respectfully ‘+ allow and give no put downs accept where others are at suspend judgment Teacher Roles and Responsibilities Roles and responsibilities are assigned at the beginning of the year.
